That he belongs in the same class as Oscar and all the other boxers with lots of potential that didnt necessarily deliver enough to become the greatests.
On the other hand, if he WINS he becomes one of the best ever.
Right now he is basically unproven as an all time great and simply an ultra- talented, good p4p boxer.
btw Dios, Vargas was 22-1 when he fought De La Hoya...no one is shot that early...
JCC, well, I personally think that the matchup in 96 was legit...in 98 yeah it seemed like JCC was nothing in there. At the very least, pick one or put the two together and you get the 7th tough matchup to floyds 2. I kept genaro out because he fought both, it basically just cancels each other out plus the guy was exposed as nothing great anyway.Last edited by BmoreBrawler; 08-23-2007, 05:11 PM.Comment

I never said it didnt help him dominate his OTHER opponents, but it didnt come into play vs Mayweather except in psyching mayweather out from doing **** offensively.Okay let me educate you some more... Oscar is a left handed fighter who fights from the conventional stance and his main weapon is a jab and down jab at that, so why wouldn't height and the overall ability to carry more weight than most of his opponents not play a factor in him dominating them... Is it not easier to punch down and more around than it is to punch up and move around if you can visualize what I am saying... and to you last point Did De La Hoya deserve to lose because he didn't try to cement his win against Trinidad during the championship rounds of their fight, becuase they way you spoke earlier you seem to believe that the only fight oscar ever lost was against B-Hop, whom is bigger than De La Hoya, which further supports my claim that Oscar was only Elite when he was fighting smaller opponents.
As far as punching up or down, I will say that although height is a useful psychological and defensive tool, I would take pbf's reach and speed ANY DAY over the height and weight of oscar.
When did I say the only fight Oscar lost was vs Bhop? We've been comparing Floyds first 38 fights to Oscars first 38.Last edited by BmoreBrawler; 08-23-2007, 05:13 PM.Comment

Well when oscar had 38 fights he had fought Hernandez, Chavez, Pernell, lost to Tito, fought Javier Castillejo who was 33 and oscar was 28 at the time, fighting for the first time at 154 "so that de la hoya could collect a title belt" and then went on to fight Vargas, so he has fought 2 older guys in Chavez and Pernell... beat up Castillejo and had a good fight with Vargas, floyd had 38 fights has moved up 5 weight classes and won the WBC title in all of them, always fought bigger guys and has fought good guys like Hernandez,Corrales,Castillo twice, took a "easy fight" with Victoriano Sosa and Phillip N'dou then fought Gatti then went on to fight Mitchell and Zab before fighting guys who outweighted him by about 10-15pounds in Baldo and OscarComment

your attempted spinjob turned into a pretty accurate description of reality and still proves that Oscar did more with his 38 fights than Floyd did.
Having said that, Floyd is the better fighter than Oscar and has more potential...but theres no need to rain praise on him as a tiop 3 ATG as he claims he is until he proves himself as one. I have shown that he has done worse than Oscar with his 38 fights and has no reason to claim such honors.Comment

how could he do more, he fought a no1 a "paper"champ for his first 154 title and floyd beat oscarComment

Vargas - AFTER FIGHTING TITO - was never the same.
After Tito, and the beating he took in that fight (especially round 12) Vargas was basically done. Nando came back and had no chin. He was knocked down by a busta in his next fight, and he started suffering back problems.
Round 12 here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JiiQY10cqqI
You can't just go to boxrec and quote stats, man. You have to look at a guy's career and see what happened and how.
"no one is shot that early"? Guys get shot when they do. Tito shot David Reid even earlier than THAT.Comment

Side note: Jay Nady didn't do Vargas any favors in that twelth round.
I was in Vegas for that fight. At that time, I was the world's biggest Tito Nuthugger.Comment
