Father and business manager openly admitted the turned down the chance to at least negotiation for a Mayweather fight in 2004. "That was the one fight, style wise, which I thought we needed a few more fights before taking," said father Ray Hatton. "But now Ricky has gone up to the top level with Tszyu and got the big win, there's no-one I wouldn't put him in with and not feel confident that he'd beat."

Leon's Response: Some of Hatton's fans are delusional. While Hatton has proven his worth as a world class fighter, his people have turned down the Mayweather fight at least three times by now. If Hatton's people aren't ready for the fight (for good reason), why all the Hattonmaniacs act like Floyd is avoiding him is beyond me. Floyd is superior to Hatton in every way save for power, but in boxing speed is power and Mayweather speed advantage is so drastic that it would wind up becoming what Floyd would describe as easy work. Hatton versus Cotto or Castillo are the fights I want to see.

Coyote Duran: I can see how that would work in the end but you'd think now that Ricky Hatton would feel like he was wasting his time against a Carlos Maussa since he beat the real champion.
Frank Warren: I would've thought so. I mean, prior to that fight, I had offered him the (WBO titlist Miguel) Cotto fight. I had offered him (WBC titlist) Floyd Mayweather. Even Don King and I spoke about (Undisputed Welterweight Champion) Zab Judah. But when he went out to Atlantic City to see the Maussa fight, he wanted the Maussa fight. To me, it's a belt and I can understand, as a fighter, that he'd want that belt, but let's be honest about it. Kostya Tszyu vacated that title and Ricky Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu. So, on the same list as Joe Calzaghe, he was the #1 by Ring magazine. Who cares about that (WBA belt)?
Coyote Duran: Right. Hatton doesn't need Maussa's belt. He's the man.
Frank Warren: I agree with you! I agree, but I was willing to make the fight. I spoke to Pat English (of Main Events). We had agreed terms for the fight and in the meantime, Pat English was advised not to deal with me and that I couldn't deliver Hatton.

Mayweather’s search for a follow-up opponent makes one wonder if there weren’t some top boxers voting in the ESPN News poll. Willing to give up weight and travel to fighter’s home towns, he still couldn’t find an opponent. Ricky Hatton, the only 140-pounder left that might challenge Mayweather, instead signed to fight Carlos Maussa. There was talk of a bout with Miguel Cotto, but nothing ever materialized. Having essentially cleared out Light Welterweight with just his reputation, Floyd began looking elsewhere.

Kostya Tszyu isn't sure he'll fight again. His conqueror, Ricky Hatton, turned Mayweather down before money was even discussed.
Oscar De La Hoya has mentioned Mayweather, but said he won't consider him until late 2006.
That's around the time when Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said he'd be willing to put young and promising Miguel Cotto in against Mayweather.
There were others, including undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah, but they couldn't come close to contract terms.
And boxers know there are two ways to get out of a fight: simply by saying no, as Hatton did, or by asking for more money than promoters will be able to pay.
IN A COURT OF LAW, THIS IS WHAT YOU WOULD CALL PROOF BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.
I can keep going, but I thought FIVE would be enough.
