Corrales wouldn't be first ballot if the IBHOF had any standards or quality control. There's about 2 dozen fighters who should go in first. That said, Castillo is inching closer to the idea, and a win over Hatton would arguably give him the strongest resume of the decade if one thinks, as I do, that he earned the first D against PBF.

As to whom was better when PERCIEVED as P4P king, it's a tough call. I think Mayweather is the best ever at 130 and that is a division rich on history; I don't think Roy was the best ever at any division except 168, a 23 year old weight class, and if Calzaghe beat Kessler clean I'd rate him best ever at that weight. That said, Roy's list of best wins trumps Mayweather's and his periods of poor comp were shorter in calendar duration. His defenses at 168 (between Toney and McCallum) were terrible but lasted less than two years compared to Floyd's three year waste of prime-time.

I notice that Technical_skill conveniently left Hopkins and Toney off of that list of RJJ wins.

As for the Hopkins was green when they fought, he actually had more fights under his belt at the time they fought than did RJJ.

A prime RJJ would beat Zag's. Zags uses his speed to beat opponents, and if you think he'd be faster than Roy, and/or is better defensively than Roy, pass what you're smoking over this way, 'cause it's some good ****...LOL!

What great fighters did Floyd beat exactly??? An old DLH is about the only "great" fighter he beat. Roy has beaten 2 of the best ever at their weight classes and fought them when they weren't 34 years old as Oscar was when he faced Floyd. all the respect for Corrales, but the man was quite limited in what skills he brought to the table, and Castillo is just good, but not great, and neither can hold a candle to Hopkins or Toney!

Fact is, RJJ faced the better overall competition, and won in more convincing fashion than Floyd has, end of story. RJJ was the better fighter, and i'd like to see how Floyd looks when he is 34-35 years old. I'll be willing to bet that if he keeps fighting until then, he'll get an L on his record eventually if he fights good opposition. Guys with great speed don't seem to hold up around that age, just ask Pernell, RJJ, and SRR about that!

At his peak Roy Jones showed some SICK skills, miles beyond any other fighter close to him. I just don't see that with Floyd Mayweather. Is he better than the fighters around him? Sure. But I don't see the gap as being that big and I don't think it's a foregone he beats Castillo.

I still think that Rjj is better!!! He doesnt just hide behind his defence like PBF!!! Roy was the better puncher of the two!!! Roys wins over Toney Bhop and Ruiz were much more impressive then pbfs wins over Gatti, Zab and DLH !!! Roy didnt just beat Ruiz he thrashed him!!! pbf only just beat dlh in their fight!!! I know ruiz isnt as good a fighter as dlh but dlh was hardly as good as dlh was in his prime!!! So that even the gap!!! Roy would kick his arse in a fantasy fight!!! If they were at mw roy would hammer him just like he did bhop n toney who were just as good as pbf in their primes!!!

I agree with you totally about RJJ being a superb athelete and the more talented fighter. PBF the far more refined and skilled fighter but not as talented (although he is very talented himself).
Left, I don't need it to make sense right now..

Years from now someone will happen across these posts.

            I'm writing this for him.

RJJ was better. I remember some saying he would beat LL. I know that is silly but that is how highly some people rated the boy and i think some are forgetting a bit.
PBF can get better but he is a boxer and has to fight some more, beat some great people and then try and retire undefeated and then he has a case for being better.

At there run for this coveanant boxing hiarche or title (P4P) who was better, who impressed more, whose resume stood out who was up-un-til and after they captured the title (P4P) better for longer? Who do you like more? Who do you think fought better?
Tuf to call but i stay with mayweather. RJJ lost a couple fights he shouldnt have in his prime. I'm not counting the present ones as he is clearly past his best...

I don't agree. Mayweather also has had immense quality opposition. Only DLH has had better than him but lost those fights he had to win. Roy Jones fought out of his weight class (like mayweather) but lost. Mayweather looked "like a little shrimp" (as regarded by the media and some of YOU GUYS) in the Hoya fight and still won. He did win both castillo fights although the first could have gone to castillo and cause no shock. The man gave him (castillo) a second chance and nobody talks about that or that fight. Ask yourself, how many others give someone they know could beat them a second chance after a awfully close fight? Even DLH gets a second chance (which he wont take) to a rematch even though the fight wasnt close as castillo 1. Nobody talks about that too. Floyd is truely a great one and the only thing against him is a relatively low numvber of fights. Just notice fighters with amateur careers just don't have the time to fight all those fights we wanted to see them in. His team is also good and gave him the respect he deserves (unlike what happened to judah who is put in a ring with animal cotto dispite having just 2 minutes in a ring the whole year)

** Mayweather has only had one HOF fight, and that was against an aging Oscar who has become more HOF promoter than boxer. Maybe down the road Genero Hernandez gets in...maybe.

Roy beat 3 guaranteed HOF locks at or near their prime, Hopkins, Toney, and McCallum, plus one more who may get in, Virgil Hill.

It appears that Mayweather has a lot of fairweather fans who really don't much about boxing. Floyd just barely won a title in the division Roy had his first fights in. Fairweather fans claim Floyd's in his prime. Can you imagine how fast young Roy would walk through that ****** shoulder roll and level poor Floyd?

we won't know that untill he fights a prime modern fighter.

castillo' pushed him back, effectively. mayweather may very well have been injured during that fight, but castillo still put brilliant work in.

                      BUT.....

COTTO, Miguel Angel Cotto...is no Jose Luis Castillo. Cotto is the best effective pressure puncher in the sport in our life time. (who floyd's afraid of, for reasons i can understand lol.)

Floyd took the easy way out with baldomir, gatti, and oscar....ill give him some slack, and say he took a legitmate challenge in fighting judah. a judah that already lost to baldomir (by the wayyy.)

but roy has beat toney and hopkins.

                      Roy wins.
