2 different sciences both take a tremendous amount of talent

marvin hagler would be roast pork in guard with a bjj submissionist on top of him,and alot of mma fighters would leave on stretchers trying to box with the likes of a marvin hagler for 12 rounds ,i train in boxing and bjj and let me tell you they both dish out alot of heart and talent to compete in.

Good post Handz. Both the ground game and the standup game are so intricate. Alot of pure boxers have no idea what a good grappler can do in a fight. By the same token, alot of pure bjj guys underestimate boxing. Obviously I think the best thing is to cross-train in standup, ground and in the clinch.

BJJ dont underestimate what boxing can do to them potentially. That is why they dont trade punches to see how much punishment they can absorb. Its a lot of boxing fans who do the underestimating.

          Well

UFC fighters have no where near the punching power or technique that a professional boxer has. UFC fighters lead with their face and if you have guy in boxing you can knock someone clear out with boxing gloves, a snap combo to and open face with UFC gloves is lights out or worse. UFC fighters use no boxing defense and swing wildy...boxers through punches down the middle and wild punches wouldn't touch'em. If you try to shoot a smart boxer uppercut will end your night. BOxers train to hit moving targets and move on their feet...UFC fighters stand flat come straight in face first. UFC fighters have some of the worst boxing skills I have ever seen. It would be a nasty mess when a one-two lands from a pro-boxer with those little gloves. You have to remeber too that UFC guys try to train for every fioghting style around boxers on the other hand train in one art and master it...key word master. Thats why they can hit each otehr 100 times and noone go down. BOxers one-two its over. They master the art of boxing UFC guys are sloppy in everything.

hagler sounds like a bitter ex champ who got robbed by the judges in his last fight and moved to italy and never touched a boxing glove again in his life. O wait HE DID!!!

I do not like UFC or MMA or whatever those things are called. I find them brutal and a symptom of a degenerate civilization that looks for more and more brutal entertainments - a so-called civilization that accepts state torture. When are they going to bring back the lions and tigers and bear stuff in the Coliseum?

I particularly don't like the kicks to the legs thing. The recipients of that are in for a lifetime of debilitating leg injuries.

Throwing an uppercut at a guy shooting in is not a smart move. Here are a few fights from guys at my gym, offer your insight on their standup:

Matt is from my gym, he is the taller, white guy:

Nick is from my gym too, he is the darker guy. Round 1:

                Round 2:

                  _______________

We've got plenty of super-stars in boxing right now - like Doctor Wladimir Klitschko, for instance!

                    UFC is a organization

                    MMA is the sport.

there are alot of mma fighters with backrounds in ,muay thai which is deitcated to more limbs in combat but come from the same Techniques perspective in punching(jab, hook, cross, upper cut) and defense (slipping, bobbing, blocking, etc ) the conditioning is just as intense if not more intense in actual sparring and training.

theres a few flaws you mention on how some mma fighters fight like saying some fight flat footed maybe because they plan to counter by shooting or with more power in there attack ,you say boxers train to hit moving targets? lol what do you think mma fighters dont train to hit targets?try to shoot a smart boxer and he will uppercut you cold? leave somebody openly willing to shoot and with proper defense to avoid a upper cut he will take you down ,boxers dont have super powers they are human like all of us i apply my boxing backround in the ring when i fight mma and ive been tooken to the ground many times ? it would be complete domination on the ground for a boxer as much as it would be complete domination for a fighter who dosent base his training soley on one genre of martial arts to go 12 rounds in a boxing match ,either way we have to respect both sports for what they have to offer and you cant neglect the fact they take alot of talent its not as easy as it may seem on tv its usually a fog from the sidelines that gives a huge misconception on how much detication both of these sports take ,and you never know until you actually step foot in a ring and fight for yourself.
