I was not impressed by Mayweather at all, sure he has skills, but he has less heart than my little sister does when it comes to standing toe to toe and actualy "fighting". In fact I would bet my sister would have put up a better "fight" than "Mayfeathers" did against DeLaHoya.....
Seriously Floyd fans

So fighting toe to toe means a person has heart?I was not impressed by Mayweather at all, sure he has skills, but he has less heart than my little sister does when it comes to standing toe to toe and actualy "fighting". In fact I would bet my sister would have put up a better "fight" than "Mayfeathers" did against DeLaHoya.....
I find it funny all the love Sugar Ray Leonard gets for his fighting but at the sametime he really was a boxer just like PBF. Sugar Ray Leonard lost his first fight with Duran being ****** by not boxing and standing toe to toe. In the 2nd fight he did what he was supposed to do which was box and he won. The only reason Sugar Ray ever got into a brawl was because thats what it was going to take to win the fight not because that is what he wanted to do. So don't be mad and hate on PBF because none of the people he has faced has been good enough to make him have to fight that way. Really what that shows is his greatness because he hasn't had to fight that way. Look at what standing toe to toe has gotten many of yalls beloved boxers. Ali has Parkinson's, Ray Leonard had a detached retina and many others have slurred speach and **** like that which down the line will turn into worse problems but yall don't care as long as yall are entertained by two people bashing each others heads in with no skills. **** you can see that kind of **** for free everyday. Just go to club when it is letting out and Ibet you will see two unskilled people stand toe to toe and just throw punches.Last edited by tredh; 05-10-2007, 02:18 PM.Comment

I'm amazed that a Roy Jones fan is complaining about someone not "giving it his all" and being "defensive" in a fight against a bigger guy.
Surely you see the humor in this.....Comment

The comparison is not valid. Roy had power, and went chin checking often. He was able to hurt Ruiz and tried to finish him off when he did hurt him. Roy planted and threw bombs.
And if you think I am getting onto Floyd for being 'defensive' (since you put that in quotes) then you did not read my post.
Roy Jones was far less boring than Floyd. That's the end of it. If you disagree, fine, but I have no obligation to see it your way.Comment

I think you boys need to learn how to deal with critique instead of blithely dismissing anything that goes contrary to your thinking as 'hate'. I hate no man in boxing.Comment

I'm a huge Roy Jones and Floyd fan. If you can't see the similarities in style well I don't know what to tell you.The comparison is not valid. Roy had power, and went chin checking often. He was able to hurt Ruiz and tried to finish him off when he did hurt him. Roy planted and threw bombs.

Roy did "plant" against Ruiz but coasted for oh I dunno the LAST EIGHT round. He never went "after" Ruiz and I've seen that fight at least 30 times. I love that fight but my friends found it boring because Roy didn't go "after Ruiz" as you say.
You can dislike Floyd all you want for whatever reasons you want. I read your post and you basically give Floyd crap for not fighting "braver" meanwhile dismissing Oscars laughably bad offense at times in the fight AND Oscar not actually doing anything in the center of the ring.
If ANYTHING this fight was very similar to Jones vs. Tarver 1. You got one guy flurrying on the ropes and landing jack **** but once in a while and another guy owning him in the middle of the ring.
Do I think Oscar did good? Yes. Was I impressed? Yes.
But I fail to see what you expected Floyd to do. In my mind his style was much less "running" than against Baldomir even. He started off the fight very similar to against Gatti. But then as he hit Oscar (and Oscar slipped some punches) he realized he couldn't really hurt him (being naturally 10-20 pounds smaller and not being a power hitter). So he adjusted as all great fighters should.
Meanwhile you must've missed Round 11 where Oscar was all but DONE and Floyd just began to beat on him with jab to the body + straight rights (just like Roy would have done). If that fight had gone 15 rounds Oscar would have been beaten up and possibly TKOed since he was already tired by the eighth round.

Floyd did exactly what I expected, and that's what is disappointing.
Roy and Floyd's style's are not all that similar. Floyd fights more like James Toney than Roy, and has way less power p4p than either man.
As a man, there are things I like and sympathize with about Floyd.
As a fighter, I respect him but he bores me. He talks smack but did not back it up in this case.
And yes, in the 5th round (I think) Roy hurt Ruiz was tried to knock him out but the round ended too quickly. It's there for anyone to see. I've watched the fight at least 10 times.
Just because Floyd couldn't hurt Oscar does not mean he could not have thrown more than he did.Comment

before baldy i thought he was exciting to watch in most of his fights, its just mainly his last 2 fights he did not do enough. i cant blame him for being cautious with dlh but baldy cant punch and is to slow, he could have jus standed in front of and made him miss and pay.Comment
