Yeah Calzaghe is just talking. Winky definently still has it. I think B-Hop should stay retired, but if he fights like against Tarver it could be a good fight.

Calzaghe said ""The problem is America has no top super-middleweights anymore. Lacy was the man. He ruled the castle but I completely destroyed him and there's no one left."

And that's why he's fighting Manfredo right? Because America .... has no top super-middleweights anymore

          hold on....
          he's fighting Manfredo...

Well fighting Wright is by far not an easy fight, but lets be honest here, Wright is fighiting 10 pounds above Middle and 16 pounds above his best. Hopkins has some major advantages. B-Hop vs. Wright at 160 is far more interesting.

Hopkins and Calzaghe both need to make a ****ing deal. The best Middleweight of this generation and the best Super Middleweight of this generation. It should be an easy match to make. Niether guy wants the other guy to have a home field advantage? Fine, fight in a nuetral place. Jesus this sport pisses me off sometimes.

Some of the statements are so ridiculous.

"I wanted Hopkins big-time but he knows I would be his last fight so he's taking the easy option by fighting Wright, who is a blown-up light-middleweight."

Calzaghe should be the last person to complain about others fighting blown-up fighters from lower weightclasses.

"Kessler doesn't want to leave Denmark and I'm not fighting over there. If he'd come to Wales then maybe."

Why is it only O.K. for Joe to fight at home Why not fight on neutral ground for instance in America. I'm sure the fight would draw a lot of spectators in America

"Like me he's undefeated and a very good fighter but Kessler is not proving himself against top names."

Remind me please, who is fighting Manfredo in their next fight?

I'm actually believe Kessler would win if they ever fought, because Calzaghe must know something that we don't, since he is making every possible excuse for not fighting Kessler. After reading this I just hope Calzaghe will retire, and let the fighters willing to fight the best run the division, instead of holding the entire division prisoner by claiming to be the best without fighting anybody worthwhile

Exactly. Calzaghe never fights away from his safety zone, and then he insults others for not accepting his venue?

Calzaghe is the top guy in the division, so if anyone is going to come to the other it should be Kessler going to Calzaghe. As for fighting in America, Calzaghe has also said previously (quite rightly) that Kessler is not yet a draw. American networks arent hugely interested in him as of this moment. He needs to improve his profile there just like Calzaghe does (nay, moreso) before that fight would get the money it deserve. From the looks of it, thats what he is planning on doing.

"Like me he's undefeated and a very good fighter but Kessler is not proving himself against top names."

Remind me please, who is fighting Manfredo in their next fight?
How many times does it need to be stated before it sinks into people's skulls? Calzaghe is fighting Manfredo to raise his US profile. The reason he wants to raise his US profile is because that is how he gets the big fights. He's the top guy of his division, he is dangerous to fight. People who bring the money to the fights do not want to face him unless they can get a big payday out of it. So Calzaghe needs to increase his profile so that they can both get the big payday and so that he can get the big names he wants. Kessler will have to do exactly the same. Manfredo happens to be one of the people out there that the average boxing spectator and average America is likely to know and he is itching for his big chance to gain credibility (even if it is in defeat), hence him taking the fight. Calzaghe didnt want to fight him, he has struggled with motivation to fight him because he knows that it is not going to be a close contest. It isnt an excuse, its a fact that many fighters have admitted in the past when facing vastly inferior opposition. It is a fault of all of those fighters because you should be equally motivated to fight everyone, otherwise shock defeats occur. Thats just the simple truth.

What possible excuse is he making? Kessler at the moment represents a threat, nothing more. Threats are not worth taking on for small pay-days when you are the kingpin of a division, it does not make business sense. Why you believe that Kessler is favourite is completely up to you, but any boxing analyst who has studied both fighters and can see each fighter's record would have Calzaghe favourite. Calzaghe is doing what all of the top guys have done to him and what top boxers have been doing for as long as I can remember. He is protecting his legacy and status until it makes it financially reasonable to take a risk. Kessler needs to prove himself, instead of criticising Calzaghe, you should try encouraging Kessler to be an appetising prospect.
