this thread has turned into a nasty little thing!
Seems like Calzaghe is at the end of his career and wants what every boxer at the end of their careers want:
    Money , recognition and fame.
Regardless of his frustrated comments the best thing he can do to get these is win impressively and fight the best known comp he can find. I don't have a problem with him fighting Manfredo. He is somewhat popular and may break the ice in the US but He better watch out tho if he thinks this will be a walk in the park. Manfredo looked real good against Spina, yeah I know Spina is no Joe, but Manfredo 's got that fire and moving in the right direction.

He's right that there arent a lot of big names in the super middle weight division or really in the light heavy weight division that could give him what he seems to want, that big fight, with all the trimmings. A match to end his career with a ****. One big problem is he doesnt really bring a lot to the table for the few super stars that are out there. Why would RJJ want to fight him? Neither are a big draw and RJJ already proved he cant/wont fight at that level now. Hopkins already got a belt at Light heavy from Tarver and thats all a fight against Joe would bring him, another weight class, another belt and a little bit of props from hardcore boxing fans. Winky might want to take him on again to secure a Super middle weight belt and the fact that he loves a challenge. Winky may be his best chance. What about Taylor? who really knows how long he could hang at 160 but so far so good so scratch him for now. That dont leave much for Joe to think about except movin up and chasin a title at 175 and that still don't get him the big money fight with any of the current champs so he's back to holdin his breath for a gift from the previously mentioned superstars.

If he gets by Manfredo maybe he should retire cause it sounds like he's losin his desire and focus and we all know what happens to fighters that lose there edge. At least if he fought Kessler he could erase any doubts about who is the man at 168 was during this period, but dont you get the vibe that he dont want nothing to do with that dude?

Kessler should be looking to take on the likes of Lacy and Froch before he can call out the guy who is currently easily considered in all quarters to be the dominant fighter in that division.

You can see the simple logic to all this, right?

The thing is that Mikkel kessler has got his best wins in his latest 4 fights. over a period of 3 years. And now Kessler is taking on Andrade - a promising prospect. Kessler seems very eager to fight top 5 fighters and thats what hes been doing the last 3 years.

Meanwhile Calzaghe has taken on Lacy - a very promising prospect (and champ) - but he hasnt fought any top 5 quality fighters besides that in the last 3 yers or so. No need to mention names I guess…. (manfredo?)

Dude, Andrade isn't a promising prospect at all, far from it.. he hits hard, but he has no defense and he's real sloppy. (I've only seen a couple of fights and a highlight video, but they're recent fights against low opposition so I feel I'm in the position to comment)

Kessler's going to KO him within 6.

If this thread was a person, it would be a Danish man. Who is attracted to members of the same sex.

Seriously people, you need to get out more. Or get laid. Actually, both.

If Calzaghe fought in America earlier in his career, maybe his profile would be high enough to get the big name fights.

Looks like he shot himself in the foot a long time ago.

Before Cal says ANYTHING about another fighter taking easier fights he needs to look at himself. He's made his career for the most part doing just that. Moving up in weight or not, Winky is one of the best fighters in the world right now. Cal needs a win over a fighter rated as high as Winky instead of feasting on inferior fighters. Second, I think Cal has some business to take care in his own division right now. Another beltholder who holds half of the belts in the division. It's obvious he doesn't want to fight Kessler because he's been making all types of excuses not to fight him. That fight would decide who the real king of the division is & the winner would have all the bargaining chips. It seems Cal doesn't want to take a risk & fight him which is ridiculous.

Saying Calzaghe should have fought in America earlier is a double edged sword...if he had fought there his profiled would have been raised, but his ass would have been lowered.

He would have gotten the several ass whippings his punk ass deserved.

Even if he had lost, at least he would be a big name. His style is very busy and he loves to fight.
Who would have beaten him apart from Jones?

I pray to god you're not trying to suggest that Wright is the easy fight... Because if you were I'm pretty sure everybody would think you're a moron.

As for people trying to say this is somewhat of a promotional fight... Isn't Calzaghe a little old to be wasting months and months for a fight that has little to no merrit and actually wont even get him that much acknowledgment?
