Prime Roy Jones vs. Prime Floyd Mayweather

that's ludicrous. for a guy who calls the b-hop/taylor fight for b-hop, i'd expect you to call that fight CLEARLY for toney. when fighter A is throwing a ton of punches but not landing nearly as effectively or as cleanly and fighter B is landing cleanly AT WILL...while defending himself....you score that for fighter B (in this instance james toney).Comment

Toney's punches were not that much more damaging than Jirov's. Toney was uberly sore after the fight and I heard he had internal damage. Jirov's body shots were not given enough credit. Jirov had more than a few nice rounds. Almost every round was hard to score. Toney's style looked better, but wasn't much more damaging in the end except Jirov had the lesser chin.
I was rooting for Toney int hat fight, big time, and had no sense whatsoever that he was comfortably ahead. if the judges did, good for them. The close rounds they saw for Toney I must have seen more for Jirov. I probably would have scored it 115-111 for Toney, but not sure. More than one round could have gone even.Comment

He scored the Toney RJJ fight 8-4 as well.
He clearly needs to go to some sort of boxing educational classes or something.
I did have Toney winning the Jirov fight, however.Comment

I think people in America thought Benn was some sort of psycho, when infact Nige is one of the most genuine guys you could imagine.
At the Lennox Lewis-Tommy Morrison fight, Jones told British reporters "I'll fight Benn any time. Tell me where he is and I'll go and see him," and Jones went over to where Benn was sitting and all the American writers sitting near and some American boxers near were expecting some kind of brawl, patting eachother and pointing and looking nervously or standing up to get a look. But Jones and Benn started talking like old chums and Benn kissed him on the cheek.Comment

Taylor nor Bhop were throwing a lot of punches. Toney landed much more than Bhop did in his fight with Jirov, and Jirov threw a hell of a lot more than Taylor did.that's ludicrous. for a guy who calls the b-hop/taylor fight for b-hop, i'd expect you to call that fight CLEARLY for toney. when fighter A is throwing a ton of punches but not landing nearly as effectively or as cleanly and fighter B is landing cleanly AT WILL...while defending himself....you score that for fighter B (in this instance james toney).
Those fights are not adequate to compare. Toney doesn't blow fights that badly when pressured. He fights back. Hopkins did not fight back enough to get a clear decision.Comment

And Benn greeted him with a touch on the cheek, rather than a punch on the cheek which weird Yanks were for some reason expecting..?I think people in America thought Benn was some sort of psycho, when infact Nige is one of the most genuine guys you could imagine.

James was never stunned or hurt in that fight. I believe Lampley had something to say about that too...all bullroar. With the point deduction and the 10-8 round I had the fight even.
Toney landed clearly the better punches, but you can't discredit the number of punches Jirov landed and the times Toney was stunned.
In the 8th round I believe......Jirov hit Toney with a body shot that made him grab his trunks and what appeared act like he was hurt.
You never know with Toney but the next round (9) was a mirror image and Jirov was just pounding on his belly making him back up.
Toney outlanded Jirov in pretty much every rounds and *OBVIOUSLY* his punches were doing more damage. Jirov is no pushover...it's not like he is some weak pitty-pat puncher at that weight. 30 KO's in 33 fights at that weight suggests otherwise. James was NEVER hurt in that fight.
With that card....you would have had Jirov winning 7-4-1 or something like that, which is just ridiculous. I'm hammered out of my gourd right now, but there is no way that fight was even heading into the last round. I had it 6-4-1 Toney heading into the final round....or 6-5 if you don't believe in even rounds.Comment
