Well you guys have the luxery of watching both American and British fighters while we only see American fighters unless its a major fight. All the Calzaghe fights are shown on TV correct? He has probably been on TV no more than five times here in the states that I can remember. When the Lacy fight was going on most of the American fans (me not included) had the idea that he would walk through Calzaghe because we never saw the guy fight. All we know is he kept getting "injured," so most people probably thought he was ducking.

That was one of the saddest chapters in this forum's history IMO.

We should (as a whole) have respected both guys and been talking about it seriously. Instead it was just (mainly) "Lacy will pwn his azz." As Lacy hadn't fought anyone who wasn't shot or at a lower level (and looked open while doing it) I wasn't sold on the guy, but was just told I was a "homer" for saying so (even though I'm not Welsh).

American bashing and self gloating aside, the fact of the matter is, is that american exposure, and fighting all around the country is looked upon differently than fighting in yoru own country, in which the opposition can often be inferior, since most 90 percent of the fighters who mean something in this game, fight here. Imagine if mexicans only fought in mexico, puerto ricans (though we are american) only fought in puerto rico. or if a fighter only fought in his homestate, he would get no love.

Look at pongsaklek wonjongkam, hes a good fighter, above average skill, but he will never get any love, because we dont know the competition, he fights at home all the time, and no promoter cares enough to really pay him to leave, thus leaving this void as to how good he is.

People talk on here about how the future of boxing is in europe etc...but if thats the case, why would someone like Tszyu ever take fights in vegas? why would lennox take fights out here? The competition, no matter what country your from, is obviously sitting here in america, anyone who wants to have a long lasting legacy in terms of skill AND exposure, will fight here. if you wanna sit in england and take on the english competition, thats fine for about 20/25 fights i guess, but eventually, you will have to come out here and show that you can win on the biggest stage in the world.

This is what I'm saying, should that ALWAYS be the case? Should not the other countries generate funds into boxing for future generations?

As for Pongsmelly PingPongJam, the "we don't know his competition" argument comes up again, and I hear this a lot. A lot of American posters seem to think that because THEY haven't heard of a lot of European opponents means they're useless. I'm not saying that's not always a case in point, but:

1. I hadn't heard of a lot of Roy Jones's opponents before I researched them. Does that mean because I don't know them, they're crap?

2. The US had heard of Jeff Lacy. Clearly a LOT of Joe Blow's opponents were better than him.


I'm not saying this as an absolute, just making points.

American exposure is some of the best exposure you can get in terms of legacy/prestige.

Gatti has fought all of his major fights in the States, and lives here. For the purposes of the boxing discussion he should be considered an American fighter. That's just what he is...not a Canadian fighter.
