I've noticed that British boxers have to do 10 times more to get any recognition here

When I studied in Europe I'd defend my country vehemently even against these accusations, thinking that my example was sufficient disproof, while at the same time I was embarassed by most other Americans I knew.Comment

Despite any type of evidence shown, nobody will every believe there is more money in PPV contracts etc here in the states.
That's like re writing the movie "Rudy" and this time around......the main character played by Sean Astin......has a terrible inferiority complex because he's short. Obviously he vents and rages at the fact that he won't be starting for the Notre Dame line any time soon. That's exactly what it is.
Brits are always in denial....I don't understand why.

Seriously, Run/W, me and you are pals, but that statement pisses me off for two reasons:
1. "Brits" as a generalisation. Does every single Yankee Doodle think the same then? No? So why are you saying a whole other nation does?
2. This "in denial" ****. (and I think you need to stretch halfway too)... you've spent about four pages in the other thread telling me that all the money is in the US when that's patently NOT what I'm debating anyway. I think you need to READ my posts mate, and not just give some knee jerk reaction to what you THINK I'm saying.Comment

One impression I get - and please correct me if I'm wrong here - is that a lot of American fans are bone idle when it comes to research and want it all served up on a plate for them.
If there's a fight that's not screened in the UK as sometimes happens, I download it. But in the US they don't seem to as much.
I mean, I'm really talking about idiots like Pantera who think fighters "don't matter" if they don't fight in the States.Comment

American bashing and self gloating aside, the fact of the matter is, is that american exposure, and fighting all around the country is looked upon differently than fighting in yoru own country, in which the opposition can often be inferior, since most 90 percent of the fighters who mean something in this game, fight here. Imagine if mexicans only fought in mexico, puerto ricans (though we are american) only fought in puerto rico. or if a fighter only fought in his homestate, he would get no love.
Look at pongsaklek wonjongkam, hes a good fighter, above average skill, but he will never get any love, because we dont know the competition, he fights at home all the time, and no promoter cares enough to really pay him to leave, thus leaving this void as to how good he is.
People talk on here about how the future of boxing is in europe etc...but if thats the case, why would someone like Tszyu ever take fights in vegas? why would lennox take fights out here? The competition, no matter what country your from, is obviously sitting here in america, anyone who wants to have a long lasting legacy in terms of skill AND exposure, will fight here. if you wanna sit in england and take on the english competition, thats fine for about 20/25 fights i guess, but eventually, you will have to come out here and show that you can win on the biggest stage in the world.Comment
