It's kind of silly to say a fighter ducked an opponent he fought 3 times.

Was about to post the same thing lol I just wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not. That's like saying Jack Johnson ducked Joe Jeanette (to a lesser degree).

I'd take Ali becoming the first to regain the title 3 times, beating a prime Foreman, Frazier and Liston, and having the majority of his best wins coming AFTER he was past his prime over anything Holmes did. I'm saying this as a big Holmes fan too.
I also agree. Larry Holmes for me is the third or fourth greatest heavyweight of all time, trailing only behind the likes of Marciano, Ali, and Joe Louis.

If anything is "overrated" its Tysons fury resume. He hasn't fought Poviekten, White, Louis Ortiz, and Andy ruiz and is content with mismatches like Tom Swartz lol.

Was also lineal, which is just as good as undisputed. So Holmes was still THE guy at heavyweight after beating a shot to hell Ali, taking his Ring belt. Holmes also had the IBF belt at one point when that came into existence, but I agree he should've went for the only other belt (at the time), the WBA strap. Don't know what the deal with that was. Who held that title back then anyway?

I'm sure Tyson Fury is just terrified of Povetkin, Whyte, Ortiz, and Ruiz, and I'm sure if a fight was made with any of them, that you and everybody else here would be putting their life savings on him losing to any of those!

                20 Title Defenses

Beat future champions Mike Weaver, Tim Witherspoon, James "Bonecrusher" Smith, and Trevor Berbick

Beat top contenders like Gerry Cooney and Earnie Shavers

Came back years later and beat undefeated Olympic Gold Medalist Ray Mercer who was the WBO champion, at age 42

Almost beat Oliver McCall, losing a close decision at age 45 vs the man who had just knocked out undefeated Lennox Lewis.

No one has had such longevity along with never losing until he was much older.

IF Holmes had replaced say Jimmy Young and beaten Foreman ( Which I think he would have ) you have a real case for GOAT.

I think Holmes would have beaten Ali much sooner. Maybe 1977. Likely in 1978. He was out of Ali's camp in the mid 1970's because he was too good.

Nah, pretty sure he would win. But Holmes would smack him for 12 rounds round. Norton> Wilder

                    - -Only reason Holmesy is lineal is cause myself and 10,000 others didn't get a crack at an obviously sick and enfeebled Ali propped up to make the good fellas that run boxing more illicit dough, ie DKing. See his latest fraud just last Saturday.

Actually, I'd refuse to fight that Ali. Never picked on the weak and vulnerable in my life.

                      - -So good he was fighting a nonentity novice on the Foreman/Young undercard?

                      Really?

                      I mean really?
