Speaking of tough guys in bar fights, check out some of the stories on Tonga Fifita, who wrestled under names like King Tonga and Haku. Like the one where he fought off several cops single handedly and when handcuffed, was strong enough to break the cuffs by pulling with his wrists. Or when a guy disrespected him, so he reached in and ripped out two of his teeth with his bare fingers. Imagine how strong that guy would've been in the ring.

Well that "patch" is a subtle way for people to be led down the primrose path so to speak...what we in the teaching mode call "skillful means." This term was originally a Buddhist concept... So you have a student that you want to paint the fence and you pull a "TomSawyer"... Lol. Instead of what drudgery the painting is, you pretend it is fun, and entice the other person to say "hey can I try?"

Gene is a bear of a man and under most normal conditions another man, or woman for that matter, would probably not feel inclined to say "hey Gene try that on me!" But that patch shows that Gene is approachable and it appeals to the ego. I know a few very very high ranked Judoka that wear that patch with pride, one guy even has a picture of his in his sig when he used to post at the Bullshido website. Basically it means that any bloke can gingerly approach Mr Bell and ask if he could earn that patch which is a lot less scary than walking up and feeling that if you don't ask right your head could get popped off.

By the way Stephen Seagal earned his patch but had not asked for it, and as a result Stephen, on very short notice, had a bowel movement in his pants and went to sleep...while Gene was making sure Stephen could earn the patch!!!

Those football players should have listened to Confucius!!! Confucius say "beware of Samoan named 'tiny.'" Confucius say "when Samoan says his little brother will be mad, chances are his little brother will be the size of a small planet." Confucius ponder: "How many Samoans can fit into a phone booth?" and Confucius realize that "you have about as much chance of fitting more than half a Samoan in a phone booth as finding a phone booth."

edit sorry i mean Antonio Inoki.
Why would I WANT to undermined the integrity of the Nevada State Athletic Commission?

And Ali vs Inoki was not a Boxing match, why would you try to make that comparison?

Plus an easy fight for win #50 for him. Hell, Conor made so much from his fight with Floyd, nobody knows when, or if, he ever returns to the cage. It's already been 14 months, which is an eternity for any fighter. What is it Marvin Hagler used to say? It's hard to get out of bed when you're wearling silk pajamas?
yeh thats probably it the dough certainly so when it comes to man called Money too.

                It's not his crowning achievement.

Just a big money fight. Any boxer that has ever lived would do the same.

yeh anyone would go for the money. exp if the name was Money. or "Con"-er

it just looks odd on his resume. you got pacman and then.... say waht? you know. It kinda reads like a middle aged guys exhibition fight.

Kids reading boxrec in the 22nd century would be forgiven for thinking it sounds like a postretirement jack johnson exhibit

                    And that's no Bullshido haha.

Seagal probably deserved it, with his ego. I remember him trying to take credit when Lyoto Machida was a top light heavyweight in the UFC. It's gotten to a point where people just say "shut up already, you fat bastard" haha. At least Frank Dux actually fought people, but his claims have been highly disputed as well.

And no matter what the reason, there's still no way I just let someone choke me out. People know by now Judo Gene is approachable.
