  • In the Midwestern part of the United States, there is a state, Michigan, and a city, called Detroit. In this city we find that they are many important annual events and landmarks that make this town a popular attraction. For Nascar fans, there is the Daytona 500, a very popular race in Detroit, thus giving it the name "The Motor City". Then there is the Detroit Lions in football, the Detroit Tigers in baseball, the Detroit Red Wings in Hockey, and for you hoopsters, there is the recently dethroned Detroit Pistons located at The Palace in Auburn Hills. However, the big event being held in this city is located in an arena called Olympia Stadium. Inside this stadium, there are exactly 104,176 attendants to watch this apparently grand event. Many people from Hollywood and show business are here to witness this sporting event.

    Presenting,

"NBA Playoffs + Boxing =" Finals!

for the John L. Sullivan Trophy!

    between

    Joe Louis
    Eastern Conference Champion

    versus

    Muhammad Ali
    Western Conference Champion

The judges are Artie Aidala and Tony Castellani. The referee is Mark Conn. The ring announcer is Michael Buffer. The ring size is 24'x24'. 15 rounds or less, or perhaps more, should there be a draw.

There are many questions that have to be answered in this fight. Will Muhammad Ali be able to handle Louis' power? Will Joe Louis be Able to handle Ali's speed? This is an interesting tale of styles here. However we do know one thing. They are arguably the two most dominant fighters ever. Both men dominated not one, but two decades! Louis dominated the 1930s and 1940s, and Ali dominated the 1960s and 1970s. This is the stuff legends are made of. One thing to note here is how each fighter to react to a loss. We all know that both Louis and Ali were excellent in rematches. This is evident in Louis when he fought Max Schmeling, Buddy Baer, Abe Simon, Arturo Godoy, Billy Conn, and Jersey Joe Walcott. This is also evident in Ali when he fought Henry Cooper, Sonny Liston, George Chuvalo, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, and Leon Spinks. Personally I feel that whoever loses this first match will win the next one, based on this observation. Both men trained their butts off for this fight, and they are in phenominal shape. Joe Louis weighed in at 205lbs., while Muhammad Ali tipped the scales at 210. Although Louis has the home-ring advantage in this series, there is no clear favorite. It's a deadlock at 1 to 1. Let's go to the press conference.

Ali: How you doing Slow Louis? Ready to lose? I tell you all that I'm gonna cut him up and rip him to shreds!

Louis: Save all that energy for the fight, you'll need it when I knock you out!

Ali: Please, you'll be swinging at air all night, fool! You can't touch me. Iiiiiiii Aaaaammm Theeeeeeee Greatestttt!

Louis: After tonight, you will be the great loser.

Ali: Is that all you can come up with, chump?

Louis: I let my fists do the talking. I don't need a big mouth like you do.

Ali: You may not have a big mouth, but I'll give you a fat lip!

Louis: Careful there Ali, you might break a vocal cord.

Ali: Ali comes out to meet Louis,
    and Louis starts to retreat,
if Louis goes back any further,
he'll end up in a ringside seat.
    Ali swings with his left,
    Ali swings with his right,
    just look at the way
    Ali carries the fight.
    Now Louis keeps backin'
    but there's not enough room,
it's only a matter of time,
    before Ali lowers the boom.
Now at this point of the fight,
    Ali takes a mighty swing,
    and the punch lifts Joe
    clean out of the ring.
    As everyone looks up
    the ref wears a frown,
    'cause he can't start counting
    till Joe comes down.
Now Joe Louis disappears from view,
    the crowd is getting frantic,
but our radar stations just picked him up,
    he's somewhere's over the Atlantic.
    Now who would have thought
when they came to the fight
that they would be witnessing the launching
    of a human satellite.
Usually a bomb is launched up
and comes down to where it's sent
but the brown bomber is launched up
and out never to be seen again!
    I AM THEE GREATEST!!!!

(the crowd is bursting out laughing)

Louis: I have a poem, too!

Crowd: Ooohhhhhh!(They are a bit surprised, but very intrested in what Louis has to say)

Ali: Ok, Slow, hehe. Let's hear it.

    Louis: Ali comes out dancing,
    Ali comes out bold,
Ali moves and dances some more,
    and Ali is knocked cold!

    (the crowd laughs hysterically again)

Well, there you have it folks. Looks like these two are ready. Here is the tale of the tape.

    Joe Louis

    age: 28
    height: 6'-2"
    weight: 205
    reach: 76"
    record: 56-1-0 (50ko)

    Muhammad Ali

    age: 25
    height: 6'-3"
    weight: 210
    reach: 83"
    record: 29-0-0 (23ko)

As you can see, Ali is the slightly bigger man. Louis has more power, though.

The crowd cheers as Muhammad Ali comes down the aisle, with a huge entourage. Bodyguards, cameramen and othes are with him, including his trainer Angelo Dundee. Ali is attired with a white robe with his name stiched in black lettering. He is in the ring and warms up.

The crowd now roars for Joe Louis entrance, and there are about twice as many people surounding Louis than Ali, about 30. Louis is accompanied by trainer Jack Blackburn, and has on a black robe with his name stiched in white lettering. He now comes in the ring and has a determined look on his face.

    • The Fight!

      Here is our ring announcer!

Michael Buffer: Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Playoff Boxing Finals! This is to see who is the greatest heavyweight of all-time! Once and for all, llllets get readyyy to rummmblllllllle! Fifteen rounds! Introducing, from Houston, Texas, wearing white trunks with black stripes, standing six feet three inches tall, weighing two hundred ten pounds, nicknamed, "The Greatest", The Western Conference Champion, Muhammad Aliiii!(the crowd cheers with excitement)Aliiiiii! And his opponent,(the crowd roars now) from right here in Detroit, Michigan, wearing black trunks with white stripes, standing six feet two inches tall and weighing two hundred five pounds, nicknamed "The Brown Bomber", The Eastern Conference Champioooooooon, your Joe Looouiiisss!(the crowd is estatic)Looouiiissss!

Mark Conn: You know the rules of the Michigan State Athletic Boxing Commision. Protect yourself at all times, and break when I tell you to break. Any questions? Shake hands and come out fighting.

Both men have come a long way to be here. Joe Louis went through Ezzard Charles in four games, Mike Tyson in six games, and Sonny Liston in seven games. Muhammad Ali went through James Jeffries in four games, George Foreman in six games, and Jack Dempsey in five games. Louis has the initials "JL" on his trunks, while Ali's trunks are plain. The gladiators are wearing ten ounce gloves.

Round 1: As both men move out, the fight goes just as predicted. Louis is stalking Ali, patiently waiting to get into position to throw his punches, while Ali just glides and slides and hides behind a good left jab that might kep Louis a bit off balance. As Ali moves, Louis is patiently waiting to throw that leather. Louis jabs ali, but misses. Ali however finds the mark with his jab. Louis is still waiting and looking. Louis gets in a light jab, and ali keeps moving. ali lets go a one-two, the left scoring, but the right is blocked. This is a feeling out stage, and Louis just jabs Ali and throws only fives right hands, three of them connecting. They clinch a few times, and Ali uses his superior strength to neutralize Joe's inside work. Joe concentrates on wearing down the endlessly moving Ali: Blackburn and Dundee are giving their fighters instructions.

Round 2: Louis comes out and pursues ali, and ali moves to the left and pops that jab. louis slips the jab and scores with a righ hand. ali scores a one-two and then a left hook and an overhand right. Louis gets in a left hook to the body and a right cross to the chin. Louis jabs and throws a right hand but misses. Ali keeps that jab up and keeps moving with tremendous speed to keep Louis off-balance. Louis gets ali against the ropes and pounds the body, but after ali ties him up and pushes Joe away. Ali keeps snapping the left hand to joe's eye: Blackburn is applying ice to the eye, and Dundee is icing ali's chest.

Round 3: Louis keeps on pressuring Ali, but ali finds a way to avoid those corners and stay in ring center. Ali keeps jabbing and using the right hand with force. Louis cannot get under ali's rechbut only a couple of times, but that is not enough. Ali applies good combos to Joe's face, and Joe is trying to stay in it, but he cannot cope with Muhammad's speed right now: Blackburn is still applying ice to the eye, and giving advice.

Round 4: Louis ducks under Ali's jab frequently to land body shots and snap ali's chin. Louis is getting in better, using good tactics that Blackburn gave him during the rest period. Louis lands the jab a bit more, and times his right hand just right. Louis also uses the left hook, which is Ali's Achilles heel. It's all louis as he corners ali and rips the body periodically to wear down his opponent: Dundee tells Ali to uppercut Louis when he ducks under ali's jab, and to stay on his toes. Blackburn is applying more ice and telling joe to keep waiting for ali to throw a punch and react.

Round 5: Louis does the same thing he does in the other round, but as dundee told him, ali uppercut louis when he ducks, and he does this frequently. Ali also moves with great speed to offset louis and to buy him time. louis jabs him in the face and ali jabs back, but louis is afraid to duck, so he takes the punch instead. they both score with right hands and louis cannot get good shots to the body during clinches, as ali stops him: Dundee is giving ali advice, and so is Blackburn to joe.

Round 6: Ali is more flatfooted this time, but still elusive. louis tries to go after him, but ali backs away and louis cannot reach him. Louis paws with his hands and throws a right cross that grazes ali's jaw. ali throws a hard one-two that staggers louis for a moment. Ali moves in to finish, but louis recovers quickly and throws some nice countershots, that gain ali's respect. Ali keeps jabbing louis, and louis is still stalking until the end of the round: Blackburn is applying ice to joe's swollen eye, and dundee is rubbing down Muhammad.

Round 7: Ali is still flatfooted to get that extra power. Ali is just watching and watching, but still using the left hand. Joe periodically gets under ali's reach, but is tied up. ali putsa left hand in the face of Louis, and louis moves it with his right and scores with a left hook that stuns ali. Louis moves in, but ali covers up and louis backs off. ali lands good solid blows that jarr louis continuously. louis face is well swollenm from the punishment, and ali's face is slightly marked, but nothing serious. ali just keeps on louis until louis is dazed. aoi lands sme good blows at the bell: Blackburn is working furiously on Louis' face.

Round 8: Ali is confident now and goes out throwing bombs. A left hook and an overhand right stun louis, and ali the throws a left uppercut and a sharp straight right that drops louis! Louis tries to get up, but he stumbles and falls again. Louis is counted out as louis is up at the count of ten.

Michael Buffer: The winner by ko at :48 seconds of the eighth round, Muhammad Aliii!

Ali goes over to console Louis. Ali marches out of the ring in victory as he takes fight #1. Let's go to the post fight press conferences.

      • Muhammad Ali Post-Fight Press Conference

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter1: How did you react to Louis' power?

Ali: His punches are stiff and hard. He did shake me a little, but he wasn't fast enough to follow it up.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter2: Will you change your gameplan for tomorrow?

Ali: Not really. I'll do the same things, only I will learn from this fight and maybe add a few things here and there.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter3: Did the crowd affect you at all?

Ali: The crowd wasn't much of a bother, a lot of people were pulling for me, too, so no, the crowd didn't really affect me.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter4: Do you really dislike Louis?

Ali: Not really. This was just to build up the fight. I have nothing against the guy.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter5: When did you know you had him?

Ali: Actually, I thought I had him in the sixth, but he did come back. but after the seventh, I knew I could put him away.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter6: Did you think you were going to lose at any time?

Ali: Well, I don't know if you want to say lose, but in the fourth, he was hitting me more so I wondered in my mind for a moment.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter7: Do you feel that Louis is now in your eyes an easy opponent?

Ali: Not at all. If I wasn't on my toes, I knew I would've lost. He's too tricky, he's got fast hands, and he could **** on top of that. So I still will train hard for the next fight.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter8: Do you feel that he learned anything about you in this fight, and that he might try to use it in the next fight?

Ali: I imagine he might, but I have to stay on top of that situation. I believe my speed should still prevail, though.

        (Loud Shouting)
Reporter9: Did you think you could knock him out before the fight started, or not?

Ali: I wasn't really going for the knockout at first. I was just moving and jabbing and letting my hands go, and when I saw the opportunity, I took advantage of it.

        (Soft Bickering)
Reporter10: Are there any mind games you have planned, Mr. Ali?

Ali: You'll just have to wait and see, brother!

        (Soft Bickering)
Reporter11: Have you worked on tying this man up in sparring?

Ali: Yes, I have some sparring partners who find similar to joe and I was fortunate enough to work with them to prepare for this fight.

        (Soft Bickering)
Reporter12: What did your trainer angelo dundee tell you between rounds four and five?

Ali: Oh Angi, he said that I should watch out for when Joe ducked and I should uppercut him coming in.

        (The reporters leave)

        • Joe Louis Post-Fight Press Conference

          (Loud Shouting)
Reporter1: How much trouble did you have with Ali's left jab?

Louis: Oh, I had plenty trouble. It's fast as a rocket, and it hurts a lot, too. It's really the speed of the punches that stun you and you don't know what to do.

          (Loud Shouting)
Reporter2: Did the movement bother you?

Louis: Yes, it did, but i was just taking my time, and trying to close the space, but I didn't crowd him enough, I suppose.

          (Loud Shouting)
Reporter3: Will you change your style?

Louis: My trainer discussed me fighting more like a crowding fighter, it might do some good.

          (Loud Shouting)
Reporter4: How suseptible to a left hook is Ali in your opinion?

Louis: He would get hit with it, but a body would have to get real close to get it in, but I would say he is somewhat vulnerable.

          (Loud Shouting)
Reporter5: In your opinion, can you beat this man?

Louis: I think I can. Like I said, if I just do some different things I know I will give him more problems.

          (Soft Bickering)
Reporter6: What went through our mind when you were floored?

Louis: I just tried to push myself up, but my legs were weak and I couldn't stay up, but I tried.

          (Soft Bickering)
Reporter6: You dropped the first game to Mike Tyson, and to Sonny Liston, but you came back to win those games. Do you feel that will give you a little confidence going into the second game?

Louis: I think so. I faced adversity before and I know how to handle it.

          (Soft Bickering)
Reporter7: Will you win this next game?

          Louis: I hope so.

Reporter8: How much of a problem was Ali's reach advantage, seven inches?

Louis: It was tough, plus he was moving a lot, that is one of the things me and Chappy are gonna work on for this next fight.

          (The reporters leave)
