    James Toney.

Without question one of the most overrated.

Every time he lost it's an excuse. And he lost to actual bums.

"If he was in shape, he'd have won" well how come he failed to impress at every single weight class he fought in then?!

There are some people out there that actually believe that if he was "in shape" he could beat Roy Jones. Seriously, those people exist.

When did he admit this? Is there an article or video where he says it?
Here is one that quotes him saying that he was smart to wait and that five years ago the fight would have only earned him $50M. As though he was some sort of boxing Nastradamus and could have predicted the fight would generate more money. It was just convenient for him to take credit for essentially ducking Pac for five years and claiming he knew it would generate more revenue if he waited. Somewhere out there is an interview where he actually stated that he let the fight marinate.

Well then. There we are. In that case, more of the blame lies with Floyd.

Tyson is brutally overrated on the all time list but he would certainly be a limited strong contender in any era. H2h though hes not beating any determined atg champion. Even the version of holyfield that beat him was past prime, blown up and on the decline.

Ray leonard Isn't really overated on a big scale, but by americans he is. You are right his win over Duran is sort of weak, involved good business manuevers and the actual fight was a let down because Ray wasn't really ahead or even beating Duran at the time he said no mas. On top of that, the first and most significant fight has Duran soundly beating Leonard - and the common misconception was leonard fought flat footed. This was from ferdie pachecos bull**** nuthugging commentating that he is known for. Watch leonards entire career, he was a boxer puncher who got in with a ring master who knew how to cut the ring off.

However, Leonard still proved his balls in that fight and furthermore beat a prime thomas hearns, which is one of the best wins on a ww resume in the history of the sport.

His hagler win was impressive because hagler destroyed everyone, and leonard...not being in his prime either jumped up and won a decision. I think hagler should have kept his title but meh...close fight.

Take away those 3 big fights and srl also battered a prime benitez while he was green. Srl was the real deal imo.

Pacquiao now, overrated at welterweight perhaps as every single win at this weight has a red flag attached to it, but his resume below this weight is actually all time great status. So overrated? Perhaps but still great in my book.

Rocky marciano, most people consider him overated, but hes still better than the current crop of heavyweights. The hw division has always been littered with bums if you take away the golden era of the 70s.
Lennox Lewis Vitali Klitschko - Vitali cut in 3rd ahead at time of stoppage due to that cut.
Mercer - Debatable decision, Mercer had been schooled by 40yr old Holmes
Bruno - Former World title holder who had suffered KO loss to Tyson
Tucker - Former World Champion, Junkie who looked aged and lost to Tyson
Botha - Former World Champion, had already suffered KO loss to Tyson
Tyson - Addicted to anti-depressants, alcohol, cocaine & cannabis.
Holyfield - Current World title Holder
Morrison - HIV positive on decline
Ruddock - Damaged Goods after 2 brutal beatings from Tyson.
            Briggs - Former title holder.

              - - Themnappies needing a change then and now.

Lar went into training in his purpose built estate gym after George cleaned out the banks during his comeback, both targeting Tyson. After a year of stalking every Tyson fight while savaging him in press interviews, Lar got his wish to be crucified on the canvas unconscious for a couple of minutes. Spinks was only one year from his last fight and was likewise stretchered...the end

Mayweather is never even in the discussion for GOAT, or even divisional GOAT.

Glad this got re-hashed; it lends to something I was thinking yesterday. According to the internet, every fighter sucks. Yup, everyone of them.

We have people who will turn any given fighter's worst efforts into the straw man argument as to why they are bad. Heck, we will look at their wins, and point out how they lost rounds as evidence of their awfulness. Heck, the OP post here brings up a given fighter as being overrated because he got lucky to knock out a HOF atg, and that he was losing at the time. Imagine that, not defeating a HOFer in all the rounds and only knocking them out late contributes to you being over rated.

Its very hipster of us boxing fans on the internet, we show off our superiority by dismissing those things others accept as being good. I am waiting for the obligatory, "my favorite fighter? You've probably never heard of him" comment so we can raise our chins in an air of pretentious supremacy. Knowing that no fighter ever was good enough for our praise.

Org. ratings go up and down, and so do All Time ratings. The greatest of fighters can be overrated, and that has always been the case. Nothing works this miracle like a spectacular one-punch KO. This is why Jermall Charlo is overrated--he knocked out someone spectacularly with one punch and the public cannot get over it. A loss would get them over it, or at least partially over it.

That's the problem. As soon as a guys loses or even gets tested - people run and say 'he got exposed!'
