Lennox Lewis: A Career Re-Examined

I have created this thread as a point of reference and a place for discussion as I re-examine Lennox Lewis' boxing career.

In chronological order I plan to trace his career from beginning to end.

The format I intend to use will be simple. I will post the heading of the next topic for discussion before I proceed to examine it.

I expect this to be something that I will invest large amounts of time to and then at other times none.

1. Amateur Career

world amateur junior title in 1983. At the age of 18, he represented Canada as a super heavyweight at the 1984 Summer Olympics, held in Los Angeles. After missing the gold medal, he decided to remain an amateur until 1988. That year, he went on to win the gold at the Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea.

An interesting aside...having lived in toronto for a while. Kitchener Ontario, an area outside of Toronto is an area with a heavy Jamaican population. Lewis was born in London England and like a lot of families they settled around Ontario provence. Jamaican immigrants had a lot to contend with...during earlier times many rascists claimed Caribbean immigants would not be able to deal with the cold weather...Never the less Toronto became one of the largest immigrant communities for Caribean folks, many of whom also came for England.

That is correct... Biggs had a lot going on and was derailed by drug issues. That same year he beat Daimiani (spelling?) on points. Biggs was the complete package and was seriously being looked at. To be fair though the Olympis where he won the Cubans had boycotted so he didn't have to face the best that year.

Dude dominated..

Lost twice when he was over confident, Cameback and avenged both losses

Lennox had size, power, skill, smarts, and heart..

Dude destroyed all top contenders- bruno, ruddock, Golata, grant, akiwande,

He has wins over tyson, holyfield, klitchko

Also has tua, Botha, mercer, Morrison, on his resume


The guy is an ATG


Always rose to the occassion in a big fight

Here is the bazaar 1988 Olympic Final.. Rid**** Bowe is warned by the referee more than 15 times in the opening round?.. The stoppage seemed bazaar to Bowe, the crowd and the commentators?
