    Lewis was paid to step aside, so Tyson could fight Holyfield first. Then Lewis/Tyson was later derailed by Lewis' knockout loss to Rahman, taking until 2002 for the fight to finally happen.

At the time lewis was not a big draw but he was certainly the most dangerous opponent in the hw division at the time. Lewis got paid a lot of money in the early days to step aside. He won 4 million in a lawsuit alone against tyson when he didn't want to defend against him. Emanuel steward was in mccall's corner when he upset lewis but right after that fight steward jumped over to the lewis camp because he saw something special. Then lennox went to another level. He had to go the mandatory route because nobody would risk giving him a shot unless they had to. The best hw i ever seen. I started watching in the late 80s.
