    ..........
Tyson like style fighter who could punch".............punch what cows?

The guy was a professional opponent right from the start. He was Bowe first opponent and got stopped.
Hell he was like 20-10 when he fought Lennox and he got stopped, he was stopped 8 or 9 times out of 50 bouts or so. I remember the guy and he was like a ball, about 255 and 5'10" out of shape unless "round" is the shape punchers come in. Another Gallento look a like without Gallentos ballz.

You better go back to Fantasy Land where BS is the norm.

Butler was on a 17 fight win streak with 15 k.os in the wins prior to Lewis, one of them being Tubbs in a 1st round K.O...the SAME Tubbs around that time who took Bowe the distance and won some rounds....You are only as good as your head is in the game obviously he had problems through his career early and later....

Somewhere along the ways he was IBO and WBF champion so he had some notoriety which isnt the thread anyway ,its Lewis's way up the ladder in his career...dummy!

Now go look up the word "FOOL" and then look in the mirror..regroup and come back with more pointless attacks ,were all used to it! We'll consider it intermission off the thread topic for something to chuckle at

"Butler, 29, whose punching power and hard-charging style has evoked comparisons to Mike Tyson, is 24-12-1, ranked sixth by the World Boxing Federation and seemingly back on track toward challenging for a world title after being derailed by years of drug abuse and lack of self-discipline.

Butler's shortcomings short-circuited his quest for a world-title fight. Two years ago, Butler was the World Boxing Council's No. 1-ranked contender, thanks to a string of 16 consecutive knockouts, including early round victories over formidable foes Tony Tubbs and James (Bonecrusher) Smith."

A year later Lewis puts on a boxing clinic even eating a powerful right hand and left hook in round one, against Butler a huge 260 pounder resembling a watered down Tyson like style fighter who could punch.K.oing him in the 5th,even knocked Butler down with a jab.
This was his first fight under Steward.

He also retained a good instinct to go for the kill under Stewart, people often talk about him hesitating but he took out many decent fighters. Of course getting with Stewart was seminal to his development.

Butler landed some good shots too, lewis chin was aways good when focused, the fight that showed me what he could do when he wasn't tentative was against Golota. I think many fights would have ended sooner if he found better balance of defense and offense,he always seemed to gravitate being defensive a bit to much why some fights like Mercer/Tucker was a struggle.

Lol its funny because when lewis walked in the ring, sometimes he had this distant look. I would charcterize this look as "Unfocused." and bam, wouldn't you know it, down he went. This being the same guy who went bomb for bomb with Vitalie!

yes Manny said the one flaw he had was he was unfocused and at time bored in the ring...how this is possible I don't know but Tyson was almost the same way and almost needed to be egged on to perform at his best if you look at all his best performances there was always dirt being thrown somewhere towards him....Frazier/Holmes/Spinks/Ruddock/Biggs/Bruno......

Lewis himself had those same kinds of fights,he became a different fighter...Ruddock/Golota/Klitchko/Tyson/Morrison/Rahman...all those fighers motivated him to another level. I remember Morrison calling him a pretty boy ,Ruddock accusing him of steroids ,the Tyson fiasco, the rahman rematch and Lewis stating he just wants to k.o Golota in round one and he did,and of course a controversial fight but clearly he wanted to win like no other was with Vitali b/c of his dominance up to that point along with his Klitchko rivalry with Wlad, I beleive had he been unfocused he would have been k.od in round 2, I think even when not in best shape that fight showed how tough he was when he wanted to win.

This article say's it all about Lionel Butler.

Former heavyweight contender, back after his career was derailed by drugs and lack of self-discipline, fights at Country Club tonight.

What is most interesting is the quote, "An out-of-shape Butler was stopped in five rounds by Lennox Lewis"...typical Lewis opponent, an out-of-shape drug addict.

                  LOL

butler was an out of shape addict that showed no heart at all in the ring but his power was numbing and lennox was coming off a kayo loss so he did deserve a bit more credit for taking butler out even tho it was a partial quit job
