  • I watched all the great heavyweight punchers of the 70’s live. Foreman generated an enormous level of punching power. More than Frazier, Shavers, Lyle or Norton by miles.

Historically Dempsey perfected the skill of literally throwing his body weight behind his punches stopping that weight with his opponents vital areas. This ability plus incredible hand speed made him very lethal.

    • Foreman
      Shavers
      Dempsey
      Marciano
      Louis
      Lewis
      Liston
      Wlad

Hard to go wrong with any one of those.

But who had the most snap to their punches? Not just the iron bar, but, as Bruce Lee once put it, an iron ball with a chain attached to it? Mike Tyson? Julian Jackson?

        • If you are looking for snap Joe Louis and Dempsey are your choice. Incredible hand speed and punching technique.

I'd have to go with Joe Louis.

                • Different boxers overtime gave different opinions. I remember Ray Mercer talking about this. He has been in the ring with some of the biggest punchers over the last 25 years. Briggs, Klitschko & Lennox for example & he said Tommy Morrison was the hardest puncher he ever faced. He laid Morrison out in 5 rounds but said he had never been hit that hard in his career. In my lifetime of watching (Late 80s) there has been a lot of big punchers but these 6 stick out the most.Wladimir, Tyson, Morrison, Tua, Lennox & Wilder. If I had to pick one I would say Tua or Wilder . Both Tua & Wilder used their KO power to bail themselves out of trouble in fights they were losing on several occasions or they went in there & blasted a decent fighter out in the first round. What Tua did to Ruiz was impressive. When Ruiz won his 2 titles he never went anywhere near Tua.

Cool. But do Tyson and Jackson have any snap to their punches too?

                    • - -I'd say for a one and done shot, Big Jess laying out JJOHNSON such that he had to be dragged over to his stool still unconscious to be tended to.

Iron Mike laid out Tubsy Lar crucified on the canvas for several min. That was a combo though.
