the dude was the body snatcher,,, GGG took stevens soul last night with the body shots,,, It just wasnt your typical body shots,, these were cringe worthy shots that took all the gas out of stevens,, exactly what mccallum did to guys back in the day,,,,

i kinda agree,,, I dont think he will be the next chavez or something like that,,

his defense is sorely lacking,, he does have good technique and punching power, but i have seen alot of holes in his defense,, I think the first guy to get off first on ggg and back him up and be the aggressor, you will see ggg vulnerable,,

I remember a prime chavez, would slip some punches, even get on his bike and box alittle going backwards,, even cotto can do that,, I dont think GGG has that in his skill set,,,

I like ggg,, i root for him and is one of my current faves, but i do realize he has some defense issues, and basically at this point in his career, his wins are basically not even as good as cotto at 140,,, cotto had wins over chopchop, pinto, pauli, torres, n'dou,,, That is were ggg is right now in his career,,, he needs to land his version of judah and shane to propel him higher n the sport, but like you said, there isnt much around right now for him in terms of competition

His defense is above average, he didn't use head movement last night because the punches thrown at him were wide and the opponent was short. He prefered to hold his hands high and look to go up the middle with hard jabs and loop the right hand in. Stevens moved mostly away from the hook so it took a while for the hook to come into play! I've seen him move his head side to side on attack and try hard to keep his moves small and slight so he has balance to throw counters.
Its very difficult to fight guys like GGG is getting because once the feel him they move away. Its not easy to catch up to a mover, he does a nice job with his steps to cut the ring down and his jab is outstanding when he does it!
Not sure what people are looking for out of this young man but what I see is a 160 with pretty heavy hands and its refreshing to see him work out of a boxers stance to land hard shots. He's not a plodder or a swarmer he boxes first then brings power off his jab and one two's! Sorry but thats impressive to me I don't see alot of guys doing it and the so called p4p kings damn sure aren't doing it. This guy forces the action and looks to control the fight then end it!!! What more do you want thats real pro boxing, if you think Mayweather and Hopkins styles are exciting thats fine but to me their boring as hell. I understand and appreciate their skills but whatever happened to bringing excitement and passion to the ring? Ray.

I'm pretty high on Golovkin and has been since he fought in Europe and was ducked by Felix Sturm. To me GGG is a p4p superstar in the making. He always seems to be in perfect balance and position. And that power is sure to put asses in seats.

Hopefully he gets Martinez soon. I think he is generally overrated and he is getting old. He does have speed though, but I wouldn't expect him to last the distance. I'd predict Golovkin to rule the MWs for several years and I see no reason for him to fight outside this boxings second most prestigious division, except for a moneyspinner against Floyd.

I would pick Golovkin over any middleweight in the world including Martinez. I think 168 and 175 will be much more difficult for him. There are fighters there who will back him up and he looks vunerable in that mode.

Surely he should have to actually hurt a good fighter or hurt someone with a decent chin before being branded a huge puncher?

Surely GGG and his team wouldnt devise a gameplan about how to avoid stevens power, if he wasnt a big puncher,,,, Its basically the only thing he is good at,,,,,
Like i said earlier in the thread,, he looked like a puncher at 168-175 but really didnt have huge pop,, but since going down in weight he seems to have a bigger punch,, no saying that this guy is the next hearns or foreman, but he can punch,,,,
True he hasnt faced any top mw fighters except for ggg, and it was obvious that ggg and his camp felt the need to avoid stevens power and not rush in till he got broken down alittle bit,,,,

Yeah I've never been sold on Stevens as a top fighter. He does have fast hands and a sneaky hook but he's never beaten anybody significant. To me that means everything.

On top of that he has embarrassing losses that can't be ignored.

Just because Golovkin was weary of his power doesn't mean he has great power. Maybe he was mistaken, maybe they overrated his power when devising the game plan.

I can't see how he can considered a huge puncher when he hasn't proven it.

Sure, he can punch. It's clear he can punch.

But to be a labelled a "huge puncher" surely you'd have to show it? Hurt someone good or with a good chin at the very least?

I agree that he may not be a "huge puncher" but he does have pop,, on his fights on NBCsports he wasnt exactly looking to outpoint guys,,, He punches hard enough that you dont want to get caught by him,,, I do think he has more power than rosado, macklin and proska and is probably the hardest puncher that ggg has faced in the pro ranks,,,
