Hagler was really an average sized 154lber. Roy isn't Chavez Jr but he's one of the 10-15 biggest 160s in modern boxing. The size difference would be very big

Here's one way to think about it:

Ray Leonard had a style that was fairly similar to Jones. There were definitely differences, but plenty of similarities.

A faded Hagler struggled with a faded Leonard. With that said, I feel like the gap between prime Hagler and 87 Hagler is far, far less than the gap between 87, 160 Leonard and 160 RJJ. Hagler could not keep up with Roy.

If it was the hagler from the minter fight,,, the hagler that was pissed, determined, tired of getting robbed, last chance, back up against the wall, with no mercy, no surrender,,
If it was that hagler vs jones at 160,,, hagler would have a legit chance,,,,

I could make cases for either guy

I'm not sure about what you mean by "average sized 154lber" because Hagler was a legitimate middleweight his entire career. I never saw Marvin in person, but I was near Jones at the weigh in for the Gonzalez fight and he was 5'10 tops. Now he was more densely muscled than Hagler, but this isn't nearly the physical mismatch that you're implying.

seemed like marvin could weigh in the am of the fight and be a couple pounds under 160. so if they was to fight, u cant have roy weigh in the day before and come in 5-10lb heavier at fight time. both gotta make 160 either the day of the fight or the day prior. r the jones lovers actually proposing a match between a middleweight and a 175 fighter? roys best at 160 was an 8-4 win over a much different Hopkins than the eventual master of 160 he was to be a half decade later so jones best at 160 does not take haglers best at 160. but I do agree that roy jones is a very gifted athlete. similar with ray leonard? only one similarity which is handspeed, that's all. ray never had jones reflexes n jones never circled and ran wild in the ring

I mean that if Hagler fought at 154 no one would say he's big for the weight class and many of the MWs he fought were fighting above their natural weight(Leonard, Vito, Hearns, Duran, Mugabi) . Roy is definitely one of the bigger 160s in modern boxing. The size difference would be great.

Hopkins was 28 years old, in his 23rd pro fight, and didn't lose again for another 12 years after fighting Roy. There is nothing to suggest Hopkins was not in his prime in 1993. You can't cherry pick when a fighter's prime was there has to be reasoning behind it..

roy never fought mcclellan, nunn, benn, eubanks, collins, liles, michlewski,
Fighters foreign and domestic and roy being the top money$ guy couldnt get any of those guys to sign and fight,,,

How come manny, floyd, oscar, tyson, srl, ali and pretty much any money guy in a division can get any fight they want, yet roy couldnt,,,

                ..
There is no reason to see half of those fights and actually he COULDN'T get Collins to fight. We should have seen Roy vs McClellan, Liles and Michalewski, but the Michalewski fight wasn't done because neither fighter wanted to leave their country. Now who actually should have made the move to leave, Roy or Dariuz?

And we only really see the questionable chin from Roy at LHW.

Pound for pound Hagler would wreck, but Roy may be too big for Hagler to ultimately score the KO. He still has a chance though.

Collins and liles both wanted the fight badly,,, both retired because they couldnt score a jones fight,,,, I dont know why you say roy couldnt get a collins fight,,,,
Everybody was willing to fight jones because he is the money man of the division at that time,,, nobody would give a better paycheck than a roy fight,,,,
Benn, Eubanks fights would have been huge

Jones and michlewski were both to blame,,, Roy didnt exactly go out of his way to call him out,, and michlewski was ****** for not coming to america and getting his biggest payday

The fight would have been much bigger in Germany. Probably would have set non heavyweight records there. But then again, maybe HBO really wanted the fight in the US? Both are to blame, but personally I was disappointed that Roy didn't make a bigger effort to unify the titles and enhance his legacy. Jones was paranoid about fighting outside North America ever since the Olympics. Now of course now he's happy to fight Russians in Russia if the money is ok.
