And Toney was a masterful boxer, he just didn't have the speed to trouble prime Jones and imo if you don't have the speed against that version of jones you are in for a tough tough night.

My hunch would be Jones beats Hagler via UD.
Yeah except that Toney was weight drained and he fought nothing like Hagler. Toney is a master boxer, he out slicks his opponents, you can't do that with Jones. Hagler cuts the ring off, hunts his opponents down, takes punishment to dish it out and systematically knows how to break an opponent down.

I think this fight would look something like Martinez vs Golivkin

Roy is too big and too fast.

Hagler can't win fighting inside(too small) and he can't win fighting outside(too slow) the only place he can win is in the pocket if Roy chooses to exchange with him

this is a good post, and all you say is true, but I think it's far fetched to think that somewhere over 12 rds Hagler lands a bomb RJJ can't take. As I stated earlier Hagler KOes him somewhere in the last 3 rounds, but is well behind on the cards at the time of stoppage

"dodged some many names he makes floyd look like SRL" now thats what i call writing. also anytime u put an odd formula like too small for this or too slow for that, u r generalizing and are right or wrong about half the time so thats meaningless. james toney anywhere above 160 is vulnerable to any fighter who makes him move, but great against any fighter who comes right to him. as for original thread, both weigh in the am of the fight n go 15 rounds. hagler prime circa minter fight n u have a cat who can move in and out, lead or counter. early half of fight may be jonnes rounds or hagler movement might neutralize jones ridiculous speed n make rounds close. later rounds jones will fade at least some n take some hard right hooks. if he can finish, he might win on points but fitty fitty he dont finish. thats my call

I can't favor Jones at 160. Hagler is far too proven at that weight while Jones didn't do enough. But at 168 I think Jones jr was unbeatable.

Hagler was super human but I am not sure he would have the power to KO Roy in the last quarter of the fight after eating Roy's explosive body shots for 9-10 rounds?

I don't think Hagler would be able to get off on the inside against the much bigger man. But even if he did it would mean both guys are worn out and Roy would be well ahead on the cards and win.

You're exaggerating the size difference between them. Roy wasn't that much bigger when he was at 160.
