Dempsey gets the better of it, though, with a savage knockout late. His power is too much for Holyfield to deal with.

I can't agree with that. Holyfield has been in the ring with Tyson 2x, Lewis, Foreman and Bowe 3x. I refuse to believe that Demsey had some sort of supernatrual power that exceeds any of those fighters. In his prime, Holyfield could trade with anybody and he had the power and counter punching ability to hurt Dempsey too.

I've seen Sonny play fast and loose with the facts more than once. Just saying.

I agree with this.... Holyfield could take a punch as well as any in history.

Yes i believe Wills was unworthy of a fight against Jack Dempsey, i also believe if he had gotten a fight that Dempsey would have destroyed him within 2rds or less...

JAB.. why do you think Wills was worthy?

American Light-heavyweight champ. Still miles more deserving than Darcy or anyone Dempsey fought.

Dempseys punches would do nothing to Holyfield. Holyfield may be the most juiced boxer of all time when it comes to steroid use.

You forget to say that Greb lost that American title 7 months later to Gene Tunney, he then lost 7 months after to Tommy Loughran and then again to Gene Tunney... Greb was then suspended from Boxing for 6 months and was then beaten by Tunney again so Greb was never in a position to be fighting Jack Dempsey and certainly not before Gene Tunney got a shot.... Greb was never No1 contender for Dempsey's title so Dempsey was under no obligation to fight the guy... unlike say John Ruiz who was No1 contender for over 2yrs without getting a shot at the title held by Lewis.

Dempsey used 5oz horse hair gloves not 8oz & 10oz padded gloves which Holyfield is used to wearing and being hit with.... huge difference!

How could he not be worthy? He was the #1 ranked heavyweight for almost all of Dempsey's reign, and as far as I can tell in the top 10 the entire time. He cleaned out a who's who of the division including Langford, Clarke, Jeanette, Fulton, McVea, Tate, Gunboat Smith, Denver Ed Martin, Tut Jackson and Luis Firpo...some of the guys multiple times. From July 4, 1919 when Dempsey won the title till September 23, 1926 when Dempsey lost it, Wills was 29-1-1 with 2 no contests. Not only was he worthy, he was the most worthy.

What in your mind makes him unworthy?

But Wills was the number 1 contender and Dempsey wasn't exactly rushing to fight him, right?

You used an argument for Johnson-Langford about public demand. There was public demand for Greb-Dempsey and and there was a window in 1922 for them to fight in which Dempsey chose Jimmy Darcy, a fighter Greb gad already beaten instead as I already pointed out in an earlier post.

no there was not "a window" in 1922, your talking about 90yrs ago as if it was yesterday and that today's rules applied back then..

Wills performances was "unworthy" of him getting a world title fight as they was viewed by the public as "snoozers" and he was thought of as nothing more than an easy KO win for Dempsey, Wills could not beat Dempsey's sparring partner Bill Tate and struggled with almost every decent opponent he faced Langford, McVea
