I mean, great name and fighter. But I would put him in the discussion of best lightweights.

Despite him being pretty much a career Light Welterweight ?, he sometimes went down to Lightweight but he mainly fought above 135. Also beating Carlos Ortiz 2x is bigger then anything he did at Lightweight.

His prime was in fought out in the lightweight division. He spent 10 years or so there, once in a while popping up in the weights above because everyone was scared stiff of him. He only fully stepped up to win a version of the lightwelterweight title in his later years.

He fought most fights at lightweight, so that's where I would rank him too I think. But the Ortiz trilogy is classic.

In his later years ?, he was fighting above 135 in his second year of going proffesional, in his prime he only ever really weighed below 135 for title fights and a few others, really what wins does he have at Lightweight to put it over his Light Welter career ?.

That's what I mean. All his title fights were fought at 135. He had that EBU title reign for so long, and all that was at 135. I'm not saying that his 'major' wins, the two Ortiz fights, were not his best wins and they were fought at light welter. But his long reign of domestic and european fights were at lightweight and that's where he fought most. He couldn't get the fights he wanted before late in his career, and he showed everyone how slick of a boxer he was. But he didn't campaign 100% above LW before late in his career.

                Yes.

                Why? Is that far fetched?

I don't see anyone who has a better resume than him at 168 at this moment on time before Wards inevitable take over.

Steve Collins, Joe Calzaghe, RJJ, Chong Pal-Park, Andre Ward are all rated higher than Froch for 2 reasons

                  1) They all prevailed against their toughest tests. Froch hasn't.
                  2) They were considered #1, Froch is only considered #2.

I love Froch to death, but how can you rate him the greatest SMW of all times when he's never even been the champion. He's effectively just a glorified titleholder.

From when he won the EBU title in 54' until 58' when he vacated it he fought 9 times at Lightweight and 35 times at Light Welter, give or take a few because of fights with unlisted weights. Previous to that in his career when he wasn't fighting for the Italian titles he usually weighed over 135 as well and after obviously.

                      Absolutely absurd.

                      Ezzard Charles was never Champion.

The only reason Froch isn't #1 is because the inevitable greatest Super MW is in the division. But as of right now, his résumé is better.

I don't see anyone with a better resume than Froch at #1 thus Froch is currently #1
