Agreed. And, you know, to Cotto's credit, he never blamed his loss to Margarito on loaded gloves either. One of the things I liked about him. That and he goes to war every time out.

Do tell us of the WBC title fights that were going more than twelve rounds at that time,I'd love to heard of them.

Leonard also held advantages of being a smaller man and having fought just ten rounds in five years also, huh?

Clearly you're on a piss-take at the moment. This is the only thing that can be explained for this ridiculous post.

        Go back to sherdog.

I think a little too much is put on to the distance aspect. At the time of the fight I would think 12 rounds was already the norm and 3 of Hagler's last 4 fights was 12 rounders with only Hamsho being 15.

you dont know how to score a fight bro.

a fight is scored on four criterias:

            - clean effective punching
            - effective aggression
            - ring generalship
            - defense

if his oponent didnt land any shots or was effectively aggressive pep could win the round based on ring generalship and defense.

was meldrick taylor really wasted after the chavez fight?

did duran make leonard fight his fight in montreal?

              did leonard duck pryor?

what other myths you have in mind?
The biggest myth concerning that fight is that Leonard didn't fight his fight right? What most fail to understand is that Leonard did fight his fight. He fought the same way he always fought. People think that he fought his fight in the second match, but that one was the abnormal fight for Leonard.

Out of all his career fights, he fought about three fights like that. Every other fight was fought without much movement, reasonably flat footed, aggressive and trying to beat guys down.

It's generally people that don't know anything about Leonard that say this...Guys that haven't seen much of his career apart from from maybe Duran and Hagler.

Leonard was told to back Duran up before the fight by Dundee because he was the younger, bigger, stronger guy with faster hands and more power.

The first fight was Leonard fights but he just couldn't beat Duran with his normal style so he changed it for the rematch.

As Blackirish also mentioned; there were quite a number of times that Leonard did box and move (again, in his normal style of fighting, he will use some movement, but not very much just as he did against Duran) as normal but he couldn't land the jab at all and it was slipped and countered time and time again. He got beat when he was boxing, couldn't land his normal combinations, his hand speed was completely negated, his normal amount of movement was negated by Duran being much quicker of hand and foot than Leonard thought, and his defense was able to confuse Leonard all through the fight...everything that normally won him fights didn't work.

Again, the big myth is that Leonard didn't fight his fight. He did, he just lost to someone better at it than him. What made him great though was that he was able to adapt and use a different strategy than his normal style and won the rematch.

Leonard did not duck Pryor. This myth has been done before.

Pep did not win the round without throwing a punch. It was actually a very hard fought round against Jackie Graves. All reports of the fight say it was a brutal round, and brutal fight, in which many shots were landed by both.

Taylor was fine after Chavez. He just took too many shots in general. The Chavez beating certainly didn't help though.

hearns aint got a fragile chin man... its not like he goes down after being hit by a lazy jab...( like norris was against brown) its not good but its not bad either...

and margarito having loaded gloves against cotto is a perfect example of myth!
you cant prove or disprove it! maybe get the one who wrapped his hand in a lie detector test perhaps?

Why are people compelled to exaggerate everything to get their point across?

Leonard was well past his best and quite inactive. And as stated, started at welterweight. These are notable disadvantages for Leonard.

If Marvin hadn't followed Leonard around in an orthodox stance for the first few rounds, he would have had a much better chance, but he fought stupidly and Leonard nicked it. He has only himself to blame.

Hearns was stopped enough times to show it , maybe his chin was better than Terry Norris' , but still was fragile , he was hurt even more times than the times he was stopped.

Margachito bloodies Cotto like no one else did before or after and was caught and suspended for using loaded gloves , what more do you want ? a time machine and Nazim Richardson in Cotto's team ?
