It ain't that bad. He did say best chance and even still said it was unlikely.
Jones, Maybe, the guy was a monster.
Hopkins... No, I don't even think he hits much harder than Leonard.
Toney... Again, maybe, but far from likely
McCellan... another small maybe
Robinson did have KO power at Middleweight, and he also had speed, and skill, so it's debatable. I'd give him the advantage of winning the fight, that's for sure,
Don't forget Tommy - Tommy is the only guy I ever saw seriously hurt Marvin.
I hate doing fantasy fights with Joe Calzaghe because he really never had a prime. He just adapted to his opposition. I think it was Nigel Benn that said that Joe would always fight at the same level as his opponents, that's why he never exploded onto the scene as a fighter because he edged out most of his opponents of all caliber. If he fought a club fighter, he would only fight one step high then him. If he fought the number one contender, he would fight one step above him. He would never really fight leagues above his opponents as often as a lot of great fighters like Ali, Mayweather, and Pac. Earlier in his career he was 25-0 with 23 KO's. He had A LOT of power back in the day, but he wasn't a fighter with too much of a name outside of the UK, that's why we barely hear about it. Then with the hand injuries, he completely revamped his style and became much more of a boxer, which his KO ratio would go down and make him less flashy. I've never seen a boxer who was able to make as many fights competitive with fighters of all calibers.
I think either one between Calzaghe and Hagler has a chance to edge each other out with a UD. I look at it this way, if they had a trilogy of fights, neither of them would go 3-0. One would at least win once while the other twice with all three matches being competitive and close.
I actually like Calzaghe in this...size...speed...reflexes...in and out defense...they would all frustrate Hagler.
I think the key to this fight will be whether Hagler fights orthodox or south paw. I think he needs to stay in the orthodox stance to win, and he's got to time Calzaghe with right hands. I can't see him winning without doing that.
Joe swarms him and gets the quick stoppage in the 3rd round. Joe would be the bigger guy, probably weigh around 175 or so on fight night. Hagler hit hard, but Joe in his time had an iron chin and wouldnt be intimidated. He'd swarm him and bomb on him. No ones going to want to hear this, but Joe was faster than Hagler in every way. Faster reflexes, faster hands, just plain faster. Joe was also smarter, the smartest boxer ive ever seen. He knew exactly where to be and when to be there. People hate Joe so they say he'll get sparked by Hagler, but I think Joe has the chin to take the shots and the speed to dodge them. And he would be throwing 3-4 times as many punches.
i like joe in this just cause i dont think hagler has a good enough boxing i.q.i dont think he would know what to do with a bigger, stronger guy who swarms, and jumps in and out.i cant see either guy getting stopped by any strecth of the imagination though.both had really solid chins, and excellent stamina
