Those other guys had power as well, but they didn't have Tyson's hand speed, his defense and head movement, his chin; for a very short period of time, Mike Tyson was a very complete fighter. He was taught by Cus how to systematically tear his opponents down, and what order to throw specific combinations that exposed weaknesses. Rocky started much slower than did Mike, and he gives up 30 pounds (not fat, either). I don't think that Rocky fares too well in this head-to-head matchup, though he was a better champion overall.

As intelligent as you made your post sound, nothing is absolutely certain, especially when it comes to boxing. There were probably tons of "mentally tough" opponents who lost to otherwise mental midgets in boxing history. I'm sure Marciano would feel a bit different psychologically after being knocked down three times in the first two rounds against Mike.

Fighting Past their prime fighters that have lost and been knocked out many times before, has to build your confidence/heart, NO?

The knowing that your opponent isn't what he used to be, has lost before, and by knockout, will stay with you during the fight and give you confidence.

I will not be unfair and say Marciano didn't have a big heart, but I will say people overrate him, and he wasn't Tested compared to what people make him out to be.

Marciano is an INCOMPLETE. Tyson is in the same boat. You can see how good he was when he was motivated and with Rooney. Even without Rooney, you see that when somewhat motivated, which he was after the Douglas fight, that he can win and show heart, ex: Ruddock fights. But, when it was all together, Tyson wasn't able to fight someone like Holyfield and Lewis in a
PRIME vs. PRIME matchup.
