  • I don't know if Tyson was weak or if it was lazyness, but he never seemed to display great physical strength. Punching power and strength are two diffirent things. Sometimes i just got pissed by watching it, come one! Push that fat slob away from you! Maybe he was just resting everytime? Tyson didn't impress me in most of his fights, but he did against a few strong men. Larry Holmes, Razor Ruddock, Tucker etc.

Yeah, I keep saying the same thing when I watch Tyson fight. They come near and hold him, and he just stands there and waits for the ref to break them. I'm sure he could free-up and get in an inside uppercut or two.

"He was violent, depressed, mute; one of the most intractable of the "incorrigible" boys. When he broke loose it required several adult men to overpower him. One official recalls having seen him dragged away in handcuffs, to be locked in solitary confinement."
From a Joyce Carol Oates article.
Having worked in that corrections/security field in that very enviroment for a few years when I was younger, I could tell you that it was standard practice for "several adult men" to intervene when things got violent with the teenage or young adult males, no matter what their percieved strength or violent tendencies were...Unless no other options were available, we liked to have a minimum of four or five (one for each limb, and an extra...a lot less painful for the restrainie that way) when dealing with such instances.

When someone ties you up, they usually have your glove locked between their armpit. It's harder than you think to seperate because the Glove is so dam big. If you try to get out by pulling towards you, it can cause a headbutt, which results in a cut, then the fight is over.
Trainers can also tell you "Don't waste your time, don't waste your strength in struggling when you can get the ref to break you up; it is only when the ref doesn't do **** that you wrestle out"

There is also a little secret to all the tie ups with Tyson. Just watch the fights, you should be able to catch on. It actually shows who has the strength.

Tyson got out the clinch when he wanted to, just like he did with Bruno and Biggs.

Lets just remember, in a fight, anything can happen.

                    • hello all, new to this forum, was reading with interest everyones opinions on the 'marciano vs tyson' debate. It reminded me of a little clip i saw on youtube about the underestimation of marciano's defensive skills, take a look, it makes a fair case.
                      youtube.com/watch?v=9b0yHvw-vW0&feature=related

AS for my two pence worth, well as much as i'd like to believe marciano would triumph, i just dont see it. i reckon boxing knowledge, training, techniques etc have moved on enough to make it an unfair contest, much as it would for jesse owens to race against a modern sprinter, i might be wrong.
anyway glad to meet you all.
