its quite clear that the Olympic final was one of the most bazaar stoppages in Olympic history, Bowe easily won the first round yet the referee was warning Bowe for nothing, the referee stopped the fight in the 2nd round with Bowe and the commentators amazed at why the fight was stopped.. IMO Lewis did not beat Bowe in that fight, The referee beat Bowe.
Foreman has always been known as a big bull****er so anything he says has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Tyson was more than a decade past his best and very grateful of the huge payday so was very gracious towards Lewis.. Tyson also said many times that if he had been in shape Lewis would not have stood a chance.Comment

Between the promters and greasy politics backstage, money managers etc we have no idea what roles the actual fighters played in fights not happening. If anyones word should be taken with a pinch of salt its the money handlers.
I can only go by the actions of these fighters, and things I see. I saw Bowe throw his belt in the trash bin. That is going to resonate with me more than the words of a manager.
I also go by fight records, ages of opponent and future champions.
[*]Lennox has 41 wins and only two losses(both avenged) Beat Everyone on resume'
[*]Lennox was fighting at an age disadvantage for his last 12 fights, out-youthed by a total of 40 years
[*]his final opponent went on to be the dominant HW of the next era.

I see you ranked Jack Dempsey as a top 3 Heavyweight on the thread below this one. I have 3 questions...
1. How can you accuse Lennox of ducking anyone, when Dempsey ducked an entire race of people?
2. Dempsey lost to a guy named Fireman in one round. I dont see how Lennox slipping to Mccall who still has never been knocked down is worse than what happened to Dempsey. Explain?
3. Dempsey never beat the ATG on his resume.' Tunney and Jack were near the same age. We dont know if he could ever beat Tunney, we can speculate about the long count, but thats all we can do. Whats your excuse for Jack not beating any prime ATG's?
We know for a FACT that Lennox beats everyone on his resume', because he actually did it! He beat the blacks, He beat the whites, he beat stronger fighters, bigger fighters, younger fighters, future champs, ATG figters, he beat every single name on there including the dominant guy of the next era.

heh heh,this thread is crazy! to see how good lewis was,all you have to do is go back and watch him cut vitali klitschko to shreds at 38 years of age after hardly any training and an obvious lack of desire to continue boxing. vitali is still champion now and nobody has come even close to doing that to him since even now when hes coming to the end of his own career.the wins against ruddock and golota were totally ruthless,top drawer.lennox lewis is certainly in the top 5 heavyweights of all time.im not and never was what you would call a lewis fan,like most people i loved watching evander and iron mike fight.but im not blind and im not ****** and you've got to call a spade a spade.lewis was superb.Comment

your quick to accuse Rid**** Bowe of ducking Lennox Lewis yet i supplied you several links to prove otherwise also Bowe claimed in the interview that it was Lewis who priced himself out...If Bowe never agreed to fight Bowe the WBC was going to strip him of their belt yet you completely ignore the fact that Lennox Lewis himself was stripped of the WBA belt for refusing to fight John Ruiz the IBF belt for refusing to fight Chris Byrd & the WBC for refusing to fight a rematch with Vitali Klitschko.
Jack Dempsey was not responsible for drawing up the `color line` it was a sign of the times. Lennox Lewis often chose to fight `white`fighters and avoid all the top USA black fighters, he fought more white skinned fighters than he did blacks yet all the top black fighters was at the top of their game which is why Lewis avoided them.

Lewis was at the end of his career and only wanted to fight meaningful fights, Byrd and Ruiz were abysmal mando so he vacated his belts rather than fight them. He fought Grant instead of Ruiz and Vitali instead of Byrd. The guy didnt have to rematch Vitali either, he was at the end of his career and coulnt be bothered to train anymore hence the reason he retired.
