LMAO reading this thread. I used to consider both Carlos and Cane two of my forum pals back in the day, and I got along great with Sonnyboy the back half of his time here after constantly fighting with him the first half
Lol when I see trolls like moneyman? i really miss Sonnyboy. Sonnyboy had a pathological aversion to Lewis. I had heard once that at a boxing convention Lewis took a piss in Sonny Boy's lemonade, and the rest is history!
Lewis is a fighter where one has to really look carefully to evaluate his resume. The biggest error people make is ignoring context: Lets take three names: Grant, Tua and Briggs. Easy to dismiss them but if one looks carefully... When Grant fought lewis he was considered a nightmare. Lewis actually avoided a fight with Ruiz who was not considered a threat at all to fight Grant who the fans wanted to see against Lewis. Ask yourself how Grant would do today, considering the skill levels we see... And Tua? also considered a live dog. But of these three Briggs is the one that is most deceptive. When Lewis fought Briggs he was considered a real young lion. He was beating people and not what he later became lol.
Lewis' resume is littered with such names: Golota, Ruddock... two fighters considered really dangerous at the time... And of course fellow ATG level guys like Holyfield... And wraps it up opening up Vitalie!
Lewis never ducked opponents, of course Queensbury will prattle about "Bowe and Ruiz" lol... Was Lewis great? Yes. I would argue his resume was one of the strongest when we consider the average level of his competition. he never fought an fellow ATG at prime, but how many heavyweights got that option?
- - I was a Lewie fan when brit heavies were still horizontal brits for all practical purposes that Lewie managed to emulate to a humorous degree.
But he was stripped like Big Dummy of every title he ever won, and distinctly like another more notorious Brit Blubber, he never defended his unified titles.
I say "stripped" for his last WBC belt that he still carried where he retired the day before they were due to strip him, a rather pretentious move like his career that he emulated in his boring HBO commentary. Mike Tyson had a legit excuse of bipolar diagnosis saddled with dangerous experimental psychotropic sedatives like Prozac for his alarming fall from the most magnificent start of a heavywt career in history. Lewie's excuses are congenital, that of being a mommy's boy and grossly insecure about his IQ level such that he kept chessboards handy for media promotional pics.
Let's get it straight, he won the fight vs Vit, but more importantly LOST THE WAR as their subsequent career moves proved where he ducked the most lucrative bout of his career, their rematch sorta like Ali vs Foreman.

Yeah, if you could get past his over-the-top hatred of Lennox, Sonny was alright and generally knew his stuff.....but oi Lennox omfg

Those are fair points, although personally if a fighter made a career of not ducking all, but decides at the twilight of his career not to fight another hard fight, rather to retire, I will not hold that against him. IF lewis had done what Fury appears to be doing, and look for an easier fight? its a different story entirely. After the Vitalie affair, Lewis stopped boxing.

- -Amazingly, I agree in general, but Blubber was handed all the titles whereas Lewie at least had to work for all of his. And nobody has yet permanently retired Blubber although Wlad was the first to retire him.

If That dosser fights Chisora I would lose a lot of respect for him.

He didn't avoid Ruiz, Grant was the better fight. Everyone knew that. And Lewis didn't duck Bowe, Bowe avoided him after tossing that belt into the trash can. Bowe and his team wanted no part of him.
