  • Floyd Mayweather's new place in history...

After last nights masterful performance, what do you guys think of Floyd? Did last night put him up a few spots on your ATG list, or put him on your list (if he wasn't on before)?

How important was that win over Mosley for Floyd's career and how impressive is that win on his resume?

I don't think it either adds or detracts from Floyd. It is what it is: A near shutout of a 38 year old fighter who's best days are just a memory. I get the feeling people where giving WAY too much to Mosely for beating Margarito. Margarito was grossly overrated to begin with: Take away his loaded gloves and he's nothing. What was his claim to fame? Beating Cotto? Cotto's another fighter who's grossly overrated. Now if Floyd had put on that type of performance against Shane 6 or 7 years ago than hell yeah it would boost him big time; but now? Just a keep busy fight against an over-the-hill FORMER great.

Floyd is no doubt a future hall of famer and rightfully on his way to ATG status. His performance last night was masterful.

Prime for prime I think Shane Mosley would do much better than last night, the Mosley that beat De La Hoya first time was fantastic.

But Shane was still clearly useful early on and the win on Floyd's resume is not to be sniffed at. He had a very close fight with Cotto and destroyed Margarito so he was clearly still very much world level.

I agree with everything you said, except the part about Cotto. He's only been beaten by an exposed cheater and the #1 P4P fighter in the world. But yeah, that's just my opinion.

I said b4 it would be a VG win not a great win mainly since Mosley already has been outboxed by guys like Wright, Forrest, and Cotto. But the way he dominated Mosley does give him much credit. The fact is that Mayweather could have been the first to knockout Mosley if he had pressed the action. People can say Mosley is 38 but Mayweather is not a spring chicken at 33. I don't think there are bigger wins than Corrales or Hatton since both those fighters were undefeaten at the time.

I think it moves him up the P4P list on a few slots, but he still needs Pacquaio to climb up to the P4P elite list.

Nearly white washing a top 5 WW is very impressive but it wasn't anything we already didn't know. One way to tell that this win isn't a legacy defining win is that anyone who actually knows Boxing could have told you the result to this fight months ago. Mosley at this point in time is good but not in the same class as Floyd. I think this win re-affirms what we already know about Floyd and if he wants to move up the ladder of greats he needs to beat PacMan.

i have been saying this as soon as mosley beat margarito.

margarito was suffering the ill effects of the cotto fight & shane was made to look better than he really is. shane is still the fighter that struggled for 12 rounds vs ricardo mayorga's carcass.

margarito took 3 punches to land one vs cotto. at least cotto had 2 fights to adjust physically before fighting a elite fighter in pacquiao. margarito went straight from cotto to shane. add the fact that he was caught with plaster & his style of taking 3 to land 1, margarito was physically & mentally shot when shane beat him.

Just ask yourself this question, did shane look good? after the first couple rounds. Just like roy & bernard vs calzaghe, just like oscar vs pacquiao. The rest of the fight they fell off the map physically. Just look at all their ages & there is a common denominator.

I dont get how beating a 39 year old fighter who hasnt fought in 1 year & 5 months gets so much hype.

              I even read a disgusting thread by a floyd fan mentally com*****g because floyd almost got KTFO by the same 39 year old man with a 1 year plus layoff, floyd beats prime ray leonard & prime tommy hearns;

Fighters get old.....it happens. The only people who get their panties in a twist over it are fan bois who's favorite fighter just padded his record with an old fighter. Truth is there's no reasoning and logic with fan bois. It's their nature: They just aren't capable of anything resembling objective analysis. Could you imagine a Larry Holmes fan screaming "Larry beat ALI!!! Holmes MUST be the GREATEST!!!" And I'm sure back in the early 80s there WERE Holmes fans that did just that. Everything a fan boi says is the result of an emotional spasm that has no real basis in reality. That's why I generally don't try and discuss boxing them: I usually just skip right to making fun of them as it's impossible to have anything resembling an intelligent discussion with them

pushes him a bit up, he beat the best weltwerweight available at this time.

what pushes him up a bit more is him showing a new side of his game.

I wouldn't compare the Ali that fought Holmes to the Mosley we saw last night. Shane is still very sharp and is more than capable of beating anybody in the welterweight game.

He was lost in there mentally, not so much physically. Floyd broke him down mentally to the point where you could see that Shane had no idea what to do. It reminded me of when he lost to De La Hoya and he was almost in tears and telling his dad "I don't know what to do."

That was a great fighter who was frustrated by a far superior boxer. I still think Shane beats most of the guys out there at 147 and this is just a testament to how great Floyd really is.

I don't think Shane at any point in his career could deal with Floyd, because the Shane of last night looked as sharp as the Shane that fought DLH the second time, he just couldn't deal with Floyd's style.
