    - - Chris John schooled Marquez easy, exposing him for why he ducked the immediate Manny rematch for a career purse. Marquez got a piddly $25K for John in Indonesia.

Reputed to have a degree in Mexican Accounting, I sure would want him doing my books...

Pep was fantastic by most yardsticks... His streak of wins, his approach... Different level entirely. Gamboa? if one is joking!

Did you even see the fight? I had Marquez far ahead. He controlled the pace and landed the better punches. The point deductions were ridiculous and it was arotten decision.

Willie Pep was a friend and one of the key architects of my personal journey with this sport. The Pre-Air disaster Pep would make any 126 pound boxer ever look silly.
In my opinion (that and a dime will get you a cup of coffee), Abe Attell, George Dixon, Terry McGovern, Kid Chocolate, Sandy Sadler, Henry Armstrong, Alexis Arguello and Salvador Sanchez would be the only men who would stand much chance.

And Featherweight is a history rich division where you see HIGH execution of boxing skill by men who aren't made for Football and Basketball.
People used to carry less meat on their frame decades ago, particularly in the English speaking world. Today the average adult male worldwide stands 5'8.2" and weighs 179 in North America, to 136 in Africa and Asia. 70 years go, less.
So in boxing condition, Featherweight wasn't back then considered tiny guys.
Worldwide, near average. Ergo, lots of Talent.

Featherweight is kind of down at the moment, and Pep is an all time great, so I would heavily favor him against any current fighter boxing at 126.

That being written, I imagine that with fighters now weighing in a day before, whereas Pep weighed in on the same day, his in ring weight would be closer to that of a Jr Featherweight. That class currently has some good fighters, and one Monster. Thats not to write Pep shouldn't be favored over Inoue, thats to say that he wouldn't be easily cleaned out.

                - - Being outboxed needing to land repeated low blows while repeatedly warned and deducted points is certainly U style 4 peanuts.

                Thanks 4 U confession…

The first point deduction was BS. It is what it is though. I still had him winning the fight even with the deductions. John was a good fighter though, so there should be no shame on Marquz part. You probably thought Jones lost in the Olympic finals in '88 to, huh?
