Do You Classify Joe Louis As Slow Feet, Fast Hands

He has a perfect guard actually. He has his hands in position to punch with leverage, his right hand parrys, left hand lower for speed, he keeps an angle at all times and ducks when need be. As long as he keeps this angle facing, he's very hard to hit from this position and took very little damage considering how active he was.them_apples likes this.

Agree with many others here. Louis had average foot speed for a heavy, and there is some film of him out there moving well, its just his stylistic choice. His style was to be ready to sit down on every punch he threw. So its more a matter of choosing not to be bouncy and fleet of foot than an inability not to.

Wouldn't say old Joe was slow of foot, but he knew how to cut off the ring and set traps for his opponent. Chappie taught him well. Of course ole Blackburn bloodied Johnson's nose in a sparring session. Great fighter in his prime.

if you just look at his build, he's strong legged with a lean upperbody, watch for moments where he breaks character, he's very light and agile on his feet. He resumes the shuffling stance to hide it all in one neat and tidy package. he's get's into position like a jaguar stalking its prey.

So much time has passed, it seems people have forgotten how good Joe Louis really was. For anyone that Joe struggled with - ali struggled with the likes of Doug Jones, Henry Cooper, Ken Norton and frazier. Louis does not get a free pass, Ali does.
surprised we never had a carbon copy of Joe since he did everything “correct”
Sugar Robinson was inspired but has unorthodox moves and lot of special effects
the next most textbook guy Ricardo Lopez isn’t Joe either
neither is Bivol Mr Do Everything Behind Jab and a master of parrying jabs something Joe was great at

Good footwork for a clown, but Hector Camacho runs circles around him as he showed in a magnificent dominance of Jose...

All garbage until someone posts footage of Joe moving well with fast feet. I am not going out there and searching for it. If you know where it is, post it. Otherwise I am convinced that he had slow feet. Did he even do anything special to KO Conn or just wait in the same old style?

If he didn't have slow feet he wouldn't have had so much trouble almost every time he faced a fast, great mover with technical footwork. He would have shown more than just "glimpses" of having some good movements for a few seconds(Tyson showed 'glimpses' of being fleet footed a couple of times before the bell rung. It doesn't mean he could have fought like that in any meaningful way) and if he was that texbook and perfect we would have seen a lot of fighters emulate Louis .
Sorry but plenty of evidence shows that he's deserving of this critique. He was flawed and that's alright, most fighters even greats have flaws.
