Its actually a very overrated win though. Reason being:
Spinks was set to retire, he was inactive for a year. King pulled him back in with a pay day - and very likely wanted spinks to lay down. Spinks got a huge pay out and took one punch. Not only does it seem fishy, but why is a guy who hasnÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂt fought in a year fighting a prime Tyson?
He was inactive for a year
King wanted to pay him
King wanted him to take a dive
I think you set the record for most lame excuses in one paragraphComment

I am not caping for anyone. I dont even like Floyd the person. I am not even arguing criticism. I am arguing the fact people will not openly admit they hate / have jealousy towards Mayweather, Ward and Calazage for whatever personal reasons.Comment

His top fighters often lost when he controlled them. E.g. Holmes-Spinks; Ali-Foreman, Tyson-Douglas
I don't even think Don King tried to protect his fighters. He suffered from a short-term greed which motivated him to go after the best fight for the biggest money, regardless of the risk to his fighter's title. (Which often worked our well for us, the fan.)
When his fighters lost he just stepped over them and made a deal with the new guy.
Don King didn't protect fighters, he used them.

Just for shlts and giggles, I asked ChatGPT if Tyson defeated any prime, elite fighters:
It responded that Spinks was the only one, with the caveat that he was "arguably" prime and elite, due to being a natural light heavy and never tested by a top heavyweight.
I also asked if Mayweather beat any elite fighters. The response is very interesting -- 4 prime and elite, and 1 "arguably" so (Canelo).
..
It also mentioned Marquez as prime and elite, but left him off the list due to being "undersized."Last edited by travestyny; 07-08-2025, 02:59 PM.Comment
