This is kind of a chicken and egg thing, do people hate on a given fighter because his fans are annoying, or are the fans annoying because haters hate on their favorite fighter? I think both are ******, but its probably cyclical.

They tend to be downgraded for differing reasons.

Calzaghe- His is similar to Marciano, both finished undefeated, and in both cases their biggest names on their resumes are washed up ATGs (Louis for Marciano and RJJ for Calzaghe). RJJ was already 5 years past his move up to heavyweight and way past it, it bothers people that Calzaghe get that win and is undefeated so they want to point out JOnes was past his prime and would've beat Calzaghe in his prime. The whole Joe Louis was 137 years old type stuff.

Floyd- Floyd kind of brought this on to himself, purposefully. Early version of Floyd (PBF) was relatively well liked, even though I was upset when he beat Angel Manfredy. But then he became a villain (Money May), to sell tickets and it just snowballed (see my above post) about the issue as a whole. Also, his win over Manny- similar to the Louis and RJJ, angered lots of fans as he wasn't in his prime.

Ward- I don't think Ward really gets hated on, he doesn't have a big enough following or footprint to, and I was a fan of his. He was a spoiler, and lots of holding, headbutts, elbows, etc. The Kovalev fights both have some taint to them in that regards, but really I don't see him getting hate as much as getting criticism for fighting style.

Sven Ottke is not hated among his own country men. Like this Trio. I actually haven't heard Sven mentioned at all in the last 4 years. People go out of their way to drag down Joe Calzaghe, Ward and Mayweather on random boxing articles that have nothing to do with them.

Floyd sold his fights because people wanted him to lose. Nobody paid to watch floyd win fights. Very few floyd mayweather fan boys are hard core boxing fans. Most hard core boxing fans have a disdain towards Floyd. Floyd isnt the first fighter to disrespect his opponents. Floyd isnt the first boxer who allegedly cherry picks. You can stay the same, for cherry picks for Chavez. However, to always bring down Floyd's undefeated record, Chavez fans will say Julio was 89-0 but 90% of those fights were bums. Then canelo fans say canelo who was a champion, was inexperienced when floyd schooled him.

So you are admitting people have a problem with floyds personality and his fan base ? Thats what i mentioned above. Just judge him on his skills and nothing more. There's an agenda to disrespect Floyd.

Ward is the most overrated by far, he's not an ATG by any stretch. he's one of these new school fighters that talks with a fake drake accent. Floyd is good but not nearly as good as say, a guy like Robinson.

and 0 should always be questioned though, everyone at one point is undefeated. Yes this applies to Marciano too. but these days, everyone seems to be undefeated lol
I never thought Floyd Mayweather was up there with Sugar Ray Robinson but people disrespect Floyd's career like he was some kind of above average figher that got lucky. For an undefeated American fighter Floyd is very hated on.

Lets play the color line game. Since you introduced it. I actually subliminaly added Joe to the list to see if someone mentioned race. I honestly dont think race is really the reason but I do notice Blacks in different countries tend to get less hate then African Americans in boxing and thats more culture and nationality.

If Floyd Mayweather was a British or French he would be treated like a god in those countries. Americans can care less about Ward and Mayweather. British boxing fans would never put down Joe for another boxer who isnt British never!

I do rate Floyd as a ATG P4P, I don't rate Joe or Andre Ward as ATGs P4P. I just rate them as great fighters in the 168lb. Honestly I rate Canelo below both of them. Ward was the best 168lb fighter in his era. Idk if I can really say that with Joe.

But to put Calazage over Mayweather is kinda proving my point. Unless you are not American but I think you are American.

Alot of people dont like Ward. Alot. They go out of their way to act like Andre Ward never existed. The only thing that keeps Ward name relevant is that Carl Froch has a youtube channel and keeps mentioning his wembly fight then you it suddenly hits you. Oh yeah Froch is a hall of fame fighter that got schooled by Ward. Then it hits you what happened to Andre Ward lol. Go on that Andre ward article where he talks about GGG and Canelo. People will just trash Andre.

Thank you everyone for engaging. If you openly hate Mayweather, Calzaghe or Ward just be honest and list your reasons. It's a safe place. Hopefully one day you will gain some respect for them and their skills. Because no one is perfect in Boxing.

You know what. People defend Marciano though but he was more "likeable "? Or maybe because he was White and American? Idk. You tell me.
