Langford did turn down a fight with Al Kaufman,I have no explanation as to why .
According to The Argus (Melbourne) on August 15, 1910, there was a scheduled contest in San Francisco between “A. Kaufmann and Sam. Langford” that was subsequently cancelled. The cancellation was reportedly because Langford demanded $7,500 to enter the ring, a fee deemed excessive at the time.

I wonder what the 'white' guy was getting paid?

This seems reasonable to me, I just don't see Langford running scared.

Thanks for taking the trouble to find that

Langford was due to fight at the Phillies Ball park, the fight was cancelled.
"Boxing" September 17th edition said this
Is Langford A Faker? They said Langford had planned an easy 6 rounds semi exhibition wit Kaufman but was informed he needed to be in shape for a real fight.Langford then said he wasn't in shape for such a big guy, and requested an additional weeks training.
His request was denied,he then asked for additional money, and a guarantee he would be paid before the contest.
The fights promoter,Harry Edwards then involved the Police. The Assistant Superintendant stated.

"You tell Langford, and his manager, that I will be at ringside.I know boxing when I see it.
He will deliver the goods, and he will do it without getting his money beforehand.
If he fakes,I will run him in.
Several fighters are now serving time in the West for pulling off what Langford plans to do.
He will not get away with it here in Philadelphia.
So long as I am in office, and connected with the Department of Public Safety ,the sport of boxing will be kept clean." Langford is said to have then left town followed later by his manager. chapter 12 page 158 Sam Langford by Clay Moyle.

Langford claimed his biggest purse was against Iron Hague $10,000.

I'll get back to you on this today but you will just ignore the facts as you always have.
You know what you posted is a publicity blurb full of lies, but still you posted it , desperate to dump on Johnson who died before even I was born.WTF is wrong with you?
I post plenty of valid sources, you just want to hero-worship Johnson. This thread posed the question of whether or not he had a good chin. I answered that question and then threw cold water on the unconditional praise he receives from certain posters who rarely post anything here unless it is racially motivated.

Johnson in his own words insisted he would never fight them. It’s not a lie, slander or agenda, it’s a fact. Every time someone posts a valid source you dismiss it. Just like the other clown.

An anonymous source is not a primary one.

I posted that Johnson signed to defend against all those three.

I gave the full details of each proposed defence.

I posted the reasons they did not happen.

You've posted not one single primary source.

McKetrik was Jeannette's manager FFS! Objective?

You posted Johnson was lucky not to lose to battling Jim Johnson, you didnt mention he was fighting with a broken arm,I have a ringside round by round report of that fight.
Your statement is not supported by the facts.

Your argument that Johnson did not have a good chin is based on .
1.A spar in which an acknowledged heavy puncher put him through the ropes.Johnson did not end his sparring then as you stated.he continued sparring with 3 more partners.

How many champions have but put through the ropes/floored in sparring?

Rocky Marciano was floored by Toxie Hall whilst sparring for the ****ell fight.

Charley Goldman sent him for a shower.
Does This mean Marciano had a weak chin ?

Vitali Klitschko was floored by 2 of his sparring partners Raphael Butler and Travis Walker.

            Was his chin weak?

Mike Tyson was floored by Greg Page, did Tyson have a weak chin?

Sonny Liston was floored in Sweden by Ray Patterson, weak chin?

There is a documented story that Jim Corbett dropped Jim Jeffries in a spar on a hand ball court, was Jeffries chin suspect?

            2. Johnson was floored by Ketchel, if it was legit do you not think Ketchel had the power to drop heavyweights? He stopped Porky Flynn.

I pointed out that several men Ketchel's size Fitzsimmons, Langford regularly knocked down, and knocked out
            heavyweights,were their victims weak chinned?

This is your sole basis for saying Johnson chin was weak .

When I pointed out he was actually only ko'd twice in76 fights you said ,well they were all past their prime or small.

I then posted examples of big men ,he fought who did not floor him.

Your reply was they were all either washed up or no hopers.
            See below

42 fights with the above . A 76 fight total so he fought plenty of decent sized heavyweights quite a few of whom outweighed him and were taller.
Your excuse was Johnson did a lot of holding ,so did this stop these men from landing anything significant on him?
Your obvious response should have been, Johnson had excellent defence ,but you couldn't bring yourself to say that could you.

            I'm 76 I don't hero worship anyone.

                    Johnson was ko'd 3 times.

                    By Choynski when still green.

By Willard at 37, when he was exhausted after battling a giant for over 70 minutes.

By Bearcat Wright when Johnson was 50 years old.

You're not very good at this baiting game are you Q? LOL

The quote I posted was from Jack Johnson’s autobiography written in 1927. It’s his own words. Published while he was alive and well. Never disputed. As I said, you cherry pick sources to suit your agenda and dismiss everyone else’s. Always quick with a deflection or excuse.

Johnson was floored by much smaller men. Ones who were too fast for him and he couldn’t bear hug his way to victory. The big men you cite are a long list of never-was or washed up opponents.

Aww, you defending Travy just because he agrees with you? lol. He is a race-obsessed poster who only contributes to threads regarding him Johnson, Wills, Dempsey or Floyd. He has zero boxing knowledge, it’s all selective Googling. Let’s not pretend that either of you haven’t done your share of name-calling. I have the quotes and can provide plenty of screenshots.
