I think Tyson likely takes care of an old man with a gut. George wanted no part of Tyson.

In 91 Mike KO Razor Ruddock and then beat him up in the rematch.
Big George KOs Razor both times.
They couldn't fight in 91 because...
1. DKing control Tyson
2. Not enough $$$ close to matching the $22mil split purse the Chinese were offering in 89 before Tiananmen Square massacre...simples...

This NYTs article, June 2nd, appeared one day before the June 3rd and 4th massacre.
Then 'Tank man' occured on June 5th.
I suspect there was no more talk after that?Last edited by Willie Pep 229; 05-29-2025, 09:49 PM.

He was one of the quickest, fastest, most versatile punchers there's ever been.
He had power in both hands & could fight out of both stanses
He was a great combination puncher
IF you think he just had to sit there & let Foreman attack him, you aint watch him.
It means that if you face even one guy big and strong enough to put you on the back foot, you're screwed. Because you will never be in balance for your offense.
This flasy style relies on being in mid range where you can hit your opponent while he can't hit you. As soon as Tyson is in mid range, he will be grappled by Foreman and he will never get set, have his offense muffled and be met with short hooks and uppercuts.
After even 2 or 3 moments of that in the opening round, Tyson will be desperate, get sloppy and lose his mind. I doubt this goes past round 1 and definitely not beyond round 2.
He literally is making the fight easier for Foreman who is an expert at cutting off the ring to land his offense. You could have asked Joe Frazier about that.
This style was very flashy but required a genetic freak to make it work, and it's so taxing on the body you will have a short career, and again if you meet a big slugger who can't be bullied and loves to take you into his world in close, you are screwed. That is why so many boxers learned this style but very few made it successful. It's very overrated.

this is a good analysis and i think the style factors are correct but Foreman being slow footed in his 40s is a another factor and his ability to cut off the ring and prevent tyson from fighting at his distance is reduced and tysons speed on the way in means he is catching foreman a lot.

You're thinking of the Holyfield, Morrison and Stewart fights where those guys came in with fast combinations and then stepped sideways or out of Foreman's counter-range. Yes, in those fights his slower feet were an issue. But Tyson never fought like that, could not fight like that, and is also much shorter with shorter arms than those guys.
Tyson is not gonna catch Foreman the way you describe because Foreman has about 6 inches of height and 7 inches of reach on him. Foreman will be extending his gloves and make contact with Tyson long before Tyson's fists can reach his face. Tyson will be "intercepted" and off balance every time. George was an expert at old school grappling-boxing. He would make the slightest push of the shoulders, elbows, side etc. where the opponent would be off balance and George stood ready to land a hard counter. He man handled everyone except Sonny Liston.
A radical style mismatch, not to mention the physical inferiority and maybe even the most important factor of all: Foreman's mental edge. Tyson had no heart and was terrified of George, Cus told him many stories that no swarmer can beat that man and Tyson had hours of footage of Foreman available to him in the Catskills. This guy was his boogie man.
Tyson's odds of winning this fight are close to 0%. The absolute worst, fattest version of Foreman does the same to the best version of Tyson.Last edited by BKM-; 05-30-2025, 01:01 PM.
