Sanders was a one trick pony. He never beat a ranked fighter before or after Wlad, and Byrd was still ranked higher and was never considered for a fight. I can't speak on Pac-Bradley, I don't get it to be honest, but this list makes much more sense to me concerning the welterweights.

One trick pony? Sanders was a southpaw and one with world class hand speed and KO power. Such a combination did not exist in his time line. He was an avoided fighter the 1990's.

After he defeated Williams, (fight after Sanders ) Vitali retired for 4 years from boxing to focus on becoming the mayor of Kiev. When he returned to boxing. Bryd was a champion he did not offer him a fight. So...

So Byrd wasn't lineal either. I don't know what your point is. The onus to rematch is on the lower, not the winner. How does a fighter become lineal when he won't even try to fight the man who beat him and is ranked ahead of the man he fought instead? Now if Byrd had declined an offer i would have to say that yes, it was a lineal championship fight. But the fact remains that no offer ever came.

Sanders was unranked when he ko'd Wlad and, as you stated, had never beaten a rated fighter before Wlad ,and never beat another after.

Vitali and Sanders fought after Lennox Lewis' official retirement. Vitali was coming off a well contested loss to the outgoing champion and Sanders after chinning Vitali's brother in two. Seems recognising this as for the vacant world championship would have been reasonable, so why wasn't it?

Maybe....but ot certainly looks like a lot of research and logic was put into it. Which is kind of funny to me since I consider Wlad as lineal champion since the Chagaev fight. Vits in my opinion was a paper champion always. Good fighter who would excel in any era is my guess, but really never put the work in that is required for greatness.
