The original Rocky was a great movie. I don't know if I'd consider it a boxing movie, its more a story about these noticeably flawed people during 70s America, and how an extraordinary bit of luck changed their lives. They tried to replicate it in Rocky II but couldnt, so just decided to make fun superhero movies for 3 & 4- nothing wrong with that.

I imagine some boxing fans would say that there are no good boxing movies because they are so knowledgeable about boxing, that they see all the Hollywood flaws related to the sport itself. But this is the case for anyone who is an expert. I once chatted up an elevator inspector who came to my work, dude was REALLY into elevators, he went on about how he and his wife would mock action movies while in theaters when they had elevator crashes- "that would never happen", he'd deride.

Sometimes, we need to have a temporary suspension of disbelief for technical aspect or things of that nature, to be able to enjoy a film. Or in the cases of Rockys 3 & 4, treat them more like action/super hero flicks.

Rocky was a great film. One of the top boxing films made.

It would be better remembered, i.e. respected today, had there never been a sequel

But then we wouldve lost the Cold War. Soviets saw that even with steroids that they couldnt overcome American grit and determination. Then, when Rocky offered the olive branch- "if I can change, you can change, everyone can change..." well it was over.

You can argue about Glasnost and Perestroika, about Reagan calling on Gorbachev to 'tear down that wall', of the work of Walesa and those who resisted behind the Iron Curtain. But we all know the real reason we have freedom today.

Ha ha and david hasslehoff brought down the berlin wall! google it, he did! and he had a talking car in the eighties!
By the way queenie never posts at weekends. It must be that his privileges at the sanatorium are only during the week so long as he keeps his fists out of the nurses faces and doesn't try to escape again!

Of course it was a hundred different things that brought it down.

Yes insult us, this is just more insults to visiting members. But perhaps this simple defeat of this little so-called forum will be a perfect example of how pathetically weak your member has become! WE GO!

Maybe I missed something, or this is a reference I aint picking up on. But I didnt insult anyone.

I write that maybe some boxing fans are so knowledgeable about the sport, that its hard for them to enjoy movies about boxing, because the Hollywood versions will always exaggerate, and the lack of realism can be distracting. But thats not an insult.
