he lost a few rounds vs hopkins, hopkins had an idea of what he wanted to do with roy but roy was just so blazingly fast that he couldnt execute.

you aint going to beat him on the outside boxing with him, you will have to close the distance rough him up. its been a while but some of the same weaknesses we saw when he was shot he had in his prime he just got away with it. i believe hopkins did well when roy was on the ropes just he couldnt get him there much
Maybe Qawi? I just can't see him getting inside Roys speed consistently enough.

While I don't think Michalazweski beats Jones, I will say this. He is underappreciated historically and h2h. I underappreciated him. He was the long time lightheavyweight champion overshadowed by Jones. Dariusz had excellent head movement, parried well, feints, good lateral movement, combinations and defense. While he wasn't as fast or explosive as Jones he did have good power. His resume at 175 in my opinion is as good as Roys resume there. In fact, I think this deserves its own thread.

Thats interesting because I thought the opposite, beating him on the inside would be to rough because you'd have to pay the price of those left hooks to get there and his speed would allow him to escape and get back to a distance he wanted. But thats the fun of a discussion like this.

No one in history destroys prime Jones, as I say Charles would have the best chance of beating him but not by destruction.

Lot of Lt Heavies being thrown around here. What about Monzon at 160?

Everyone had to fight Roy's fight. But a big puncher would always stand a chance, though landing it square was almost impossible. It would require someone who could take Roy's punch, almost an impossible ask right there. Charles and Tunney would both probably KO him. I like Spinks too. Spinks was entirely capable, as the others are, of out-boxing Roy. We know a man like Charles can already take his shots, since he withstood those of master Marciano. I assume he would land his own shots too. I have no faith in Roy's chin.

How did Glen Johnson, and Antonio Tarver do it if Roy was so invincible.

                  Tarver?

A great opening for another 12 page argument over whether "size matters."

For God's sake man, Roy was well shot for both. It happened fast with Roy. Once shot, he was all the way shot.

                      - - After Roy hung on collecting needless paydays while circling the drain, the usual suspects forget Roy's unworldly speed of hand and foot along with a greatly unrated punch. Roy had a tremendous boxing IQ also. Charles also hung around too long, but Tunney retired incredibly young Knowing that Dempsey actually KOed him in their rematch, so gets a pass on his prime rating.
