Sure. Tyson was in a tail spin, on dangerous experimental drugs.yada yada yada. Whatever you say. Keep the excuses coming.
Every other referee confronted with Dave Barry's situation returned to the downed fighter and picked-up the time keepers' count. Not Dave Barry, he CHOSE to ignore that rule and started at the count of one. He blew the count.

In contrast, in the very next round Dempsey suffers a one knee flash KD and Barry does not even look at Tunney, but IMMEDIATELY starts his count against Dempsey.

Dempsey's camp tried to refuse Dave Barry but Billy Gibson had Boo Boo Hoff levy a lawsuit against Tunney seeking an injunction to stop the fight over a bogus contract sale (that Hoff couldn't, and later wouldn't, be able to prove).

But once Dempsey accepted Dave Barry as referee Boo Boo Hoff mysteriously dropped the suit and the fight was back on.

Barry was there to cheat for Tunney if need be.

The rules of boxing state the the count shall not start until the other boxer goes to a neutral corner. Saying Barry was there to cheat for Tunney when it was Dempsey's fault for not going to a nutral corner is comical.

Yes, it's comical to say Barry was there to cheat for Tunney.

The other factor is a new rule, one which Dempsey himself had recommended, in the interest of safety. Dempsey had been known to stand over a fighter he'd knocked down, wait for him to get up, and then start pounding away at him again. Boxers dying as a result of injuries sustained during fights has never been common, but it had already happened a few times, and older boxers and retired boxers becoming "punch-drunk" -- later called dementia pugilistica, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) -- was already known.

So a rule was set: When a fighter was knocked down, the referee would order the standing fighter to retreat to a neutral corner. Only when the standing fighter did so would the referee begin the count. The State of Illinois had already adopted this rule by 1927. The State of New York, including the new Madison Square Garden (opened in 1925, and eventually known as "the old Garden"), the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium, did not yet have it.

Like i said, it was Dempsey's own fault. Tunney did what he was supposed to do. There was no cheating.

And actually when Tunney knocked Dempsey down the next round, Barry was going right to Tunney to send him to a neutral corner. Dempsey was up so quickly the fight immediately resumed. There was no count.

            - - Ali almost never went to a neutral corner, the worst being Liston 2 where he fought with Walcott trying to Kick the downed Liston in the noggin.

Look, we know U blew holes in U IQ decades ago.

Look Queenie, we all know you just blow. You couldn't form a cohesive nor logical argument on a sober day let alone now. Just give it up and dive back into the bottle.

What "great matchups" didn't happen with Tyson???

He fought the entire top 10 from the year that he became champion with the exception of Tim Witherspoon & beat 8 out of 10 of them. Crushed most of them.

Roy fought & demolished Toney when he was undefeated & a top 3 P4P fighter in the world.

He beat a young Bernard Hopkins.

Hey James Toney played the Gatti game, and hit the all you can eat buffet immediately after the weigh in, and kept eating until his ring walk. What the hell happened with Roy against Glen Johnson, and Antonio Tarver?
