Lol I have stories... Did the first part of a doctorate at University of Toronto. We came from San Francisco where you would go into an Asian restaurant and load up what you wanted... Go to similar restaurant in Toronto, they are literally counting the carrots, eggplant pieces, lol... We were blessed to have United States Dollars, at least for a while, very expensive city... And the scary thing is? Vancouver makes Toronto look like a bargain basement!

Me too! Canada is nice country so it’s no real shock it pulls a lot Euro immigration. Most Europeans, I think, would rather avoid the dystopian shi t hole south of the 49th parallel.

No, of course not. That’s…..well I have fooling clue were that came from The truth is, the number of people who did hits for La Cosa Nostra was small, and I’ve never seen anyone ever suggest Marciano was a torpedo for one of the families. Local muscle MAYBE, but no more than that.

A lot of "rich" immigrants lol. I have a lot of respect for Canada, and a few qualms. I can take the self righteousness because it is backed up with more humane treatment, I can take the following of the Royal Family... Not as easy to swallow but ok. The immigration policy for Canada is similar to Europe: A pastiche where each group retains its traditions... I always felt this encourages g h e t t o s. You kind of see it in Canada. The idea of a melting pot (America) to me is a great policy, when done properly... Immigrants who retain their ways and are also proud to be American.

Canadian cities are well run, expensive and hard during the winters. here is another one I did not know: Toronto has basically the same population as Chicago! I had no idea it was that large!

What comes out reading the excellent piece on Marciano done for Sports Illustrated, was the love Marciano had, vis a vis the need, to be adored. The Italian guys always threw the A level, the VIP treatment at Marciano. He never paid a dime for anything, he was idolized, and presumably had to do very little to get his way with the gang. Marciano did occasionally lend money out (according to anecdotal sources ahem!) and even would occasionally go through the motions regarding threats. With that said, Marciano could have asked any thumb breaker to act on his behalf.

When we were in Toronto we used to see signs for Cuban trips... It took me a New York minute to figure out what was "weird" about these adds... Of course! none existed in the States because of the embargo!

Toronto is huge. Montreal, not so much. But Montreal has the culture and much better food.

Nearing 62 life closing in I have few regrets... I wish in the 3rd grade I had not been so cruel to Mark Jessina, but alas I did apologize... Maybe the wife and I should have had one more kid? Two boys, never really experienced having a daughter... I can live with these but what kills me, haunts me! makes regret a tangible force is: when attending U of Toronto I never got to visit Montreal and Quebec, two places I would love to see. I know they were not a hop skip and jump away, but we were in the country, we could have tried. I really would love to see these two cities. The wife wants to visit Nova Scotia because of her Cajun roots. I could go for that as well, but I am so curious about Montreal particularly and after beholding Vancouver, realizing what I could have missed (Seattle by comparison was boring), I know I would really love Montreal.

True but Montreal is certainly no population slouch! Almost 2 million, about the size of San Francisco and San Jose combined when the tech heads are chased out periodically.
