The list is so big the forum might lag out.

short answer, he doesn’t beat any great / Hof from the past. He’s beating some seriously ****ty competition, I don’t think the world even knows to the extent of how bad they are.

to a non boxing fan / casual they rate the ability of a fighter based on his size and also his fame (the level he is fighting at).

Heavyweight boxing started getting bad right around the time Wlad took over, and he only took over because there wasn’t anyone around to fight. He already lost bad in his prime to basic competition.

whats missing is a real fighter, a fighter who isn’t scared and had a good coach to teach him proper boxing fundamentals.

these are all gone. There are no boxing fundamentals because all the good trainers are dead and they never wrote books they only had apprenticeships.

they don’t even know how to train. They all lift weights and don’t even understand what a speed bag is actually used for.

from my estimation, Usyk probably sits around the level of a david Haye. Different style but probably about that level. Someone who would lose perhaps a close decision to Wlad in his prime. Wlad still knew at least how to throw a good right cross and that would probably steal the night.

As soon as Usyk get’s in with a good fighter from the early 00s (or anyone before) he’s gonna run into a world of trouble because the ability and competitive desire of the average boxer in the higher ranks increases. They have better trainers and understand pro boxing much better because of it. They aren’t from the post covid era which seems to have done something to the human race as a whole.

for example, Oliver Mcall, Rahman, James Toney, these guys beat Usyk. At best he’s competitive.

you start getting in with styles like Frazier or Foreman, Ali etc old fight styles and Usyk can’t do anything. His style won’t work and he get’s knocked out. Even temperament alone, you are just dealing with more determined harder men than the guys Usyk is used to getting in with.

    Sorry not Sorry

Pre-Liston, how many of the heavyweight greats do you think would whoop Usyk's a**?

So the further back in time we go, the more the "competitive desire of the average boxer in the higher ranks increases". Do we have something other than wishfull thinking to support this notion? Or is it just another unverifiable claim of yours... you know, like the idea that modern boxers have thinner sculls than the oldtimers!?

So the covid era has turned today's boxers into sissies?

      Toney would beat Usyk. Really??

Hidden in all these lists... your list, other lists on the thread... are some real nice match ups. I would LOVE to see Patterson, or Toney versus Usyk! Those two stand out but there are others.

If we look at boxing, which is a hybrid activity... with a percent given to fighting and a percent to sports, the biggest difference is in the percentage amounts changing over time, from initially being more fighting to becoming more of a sport. This does IMO not mean "better" or "worse." This change already started shifting from Dempsey onwards, even before, if we look at when gloves were introduced. We can go a step farther and say that initially what we call "Boxing" a la Marquis of Queensbury, was inchoate very much similar to fighting with an Italian dueling sword (Rapier).

But history has a wonderful random quality with epistemology... The amateur style became over time its own varied background with some programs becoming much more successful than others. Among those are the Ukranian and Cuban orthodoxy. Both having produced incredible fighters. Usyk as a product of that program has fantastic skills to work with. I would not denigrate Usyk based on his pedigree... He is an example, to me, of the success of fighters that are mobile, capable and have technical range.

I do have to say one thing though lol... Toney IMO would Indeed be a nightmare for Usyk! It would be a chess match. Watch how Toney Bellew did before he gassed against Usyk for precedent. Would be a great fight.
