You are right .I was never anything special, but at least I tried.

Why don't you tell us about your own pugilistic experiences ?

Johnson sounded so lucid and clear at age 67.

Compare that to James Toney or Fernando Vargas at much younger ages.

          - - JJ was a very intelligent feller compared to double digit IQs of Two Ton and Vargas, so of course he boxed for longevity rather than out and out fight.

He did swing for the fences vs Willard though thinking him just another cowboy white dope who wore him out.

Jack Johnson was an old man yet still managed to be winning the fight against the big lummox Willard before eventually wilting in hot and humid Havana.

He wilted when he was hurt by body shots which can be seen on film. He was not winning in the second half of the fight on the film. It was hot in April in Cuba? Check the weather archives.

71 to 74 degrees at fight time, but high humidity and overcast.

Prefight both fighters are bundled up to keep the heat in.

Havana newspaper said low 70s all day.

Contrast that to Ohio (Dempsey-Willard) where it actually was 100 degrees.

Pre-fight both fighters are stripped to the waste and there are umbrellas in the corner to keep the sun off them.

The Havana heat is an apocryphal story (and excuse) used by JJ.

JJ was the type of man who would rather say he took a dive than admit he got beaten.

It was no dive. Johnson is a liar and was doubled over and nearly down for the count by body shots in round 25. He was hit flush by a punch in round 26. OUT. There is film of it.

People don't watch the films but love to comment on them. Thanks for reporting the facts.

It was a nice spring day, 71-74 degrees in April.

                    Yes, yes, and yes.

But the the humidity was high so it was muggy. The air was thick and that does cause breath to labor some.

The Referee's opinion of the Willard v Johnson fight.
"After the fight, referee Jack Welch said: "If I had been compelled to give a decision at the end of the twenty-fifth round, it would have been Johnson's by a wide margin. Up to the twentieth round, Willard had one won only one round by a real margin and two or three others by the slightest shade. In the thirteenth and fourteenth, I was almost sure Johnson would knock Willard out, but Willard showed that his jaw and body were too tough. Johnson put up a wonderful fight to the twentieth round, but age stepped in then and defeated him."
Johnson was 37 years old and 225lbs,31 lbs more than he had scaled when he won the title from Burns,7 years earlier.

I was in Havana about 5 years ago in April, the same time as the fight took place, the humidity is fierce.
