During Dempsey's title reign, the five feet seven Gans never weighed over 156lbs.

Dempsey used Gans as a sparring partner to help with his speed.

Although I can't pull his name out my ass, Dempsey, to the deilight of the press boys, by chasing a bantamweight around the ring, to work on footwork speed.

          - - OP question is baloney.

What were the black population west of the Mississippi in Dempsey day?

Prob a fractional % same as OP IQ.

Dempsey in his Kid Blackie stage worked Young Peter Jackson Gym in SLCity where he filled in no shows between sparring and sweeping duties, ie: Plenty of black action plus a recorded KO vs a big black fighter coming up.

          KOed Godfrey in sparring.

Majority of Dempsey sparring Partners as champ was black…lotsa duhs here…

            At no time have I implied, or suggested that Dempsey did not have black sparring partners among those he employed were;
            Godfrey
            Gans
            Johnson
            Tate
            Gains

Your post is like all of your others ,off topic, pointless, and irrelevant.

Well Wills and Godfrey would rank #1 of his title wins. Notice I said wins. Tunney beat him badly winning 18 or 19 of 20 rounds , and IMO would have knocked him out had both fights been 15 rounds.
Norfolk would rate as Dempsey first, second or third best title opponent assuming there are no shenanigans.

1925 was the only year Godfrey would have been a credible opponent for Dempsey after that he fell out of the ratings.
Which win over a HEAVYWEIGHT would justify Norfolk getting a title shot?
Apart from 35 years old Jeff Clark who was ,losing regularly by then, name one HEAVYWEIGHT of any stature he beat that would make him Dempsey's second or third best opponent ?

1 ) I agree with the Godfrey comment, but there is no way Dempsey would make this fight. At any point of his career.

2 ) Dempsey fought plenty of men in the 170's and 180's Norfolk size. Actually he fought one in the 160's. Why does Norfolk, who beat men bigger than Dempsey and beat guys like Greb who Dempsey clearly ducked. Miske got a title shot when he was a sick man dying from bright disease. I think Miske and Greb would qualify as Dempsey's third best opponent beaten. In addition Norfolk beat John Lester Johnson, Dempsey did not. There are other common opponents.

I will wait to hear your replay and do quote me in full context please. I look forward to continuing this conversation with you.

PS. Clark was 33 and 34 by the way when Norfolk beat him, not 35 as you ascertain. At least Clark wasn't 37 an inactive for 3 + years, that was Willard when Dempsey fought him.
