There's boxing and there are Prize Fights.
By prize fight standards the man was awesome.
I thought some of his boxing was quite dirty. But acceptable in a fight.
It is probably incorrect to compare the two, but in rules applied, much of that inside grabbing, pulling down of his opponent's arm, and physically turning his opponent in clinches, would be deemed foul in an amatuer boxing match.
Dirty fighter.
P.S. The early description of Liston's foot work and the emphasis on the lead foot when jabbing reminds me of something Dempsey said, regarding how he threw his left hook. Sorry but I don't know the technique of the game well enough to extrapolate.
