There's boxing and there are Prize Fights.

By prize fight standards the man was awesome.

I thought some of his boxing was quite dirty. But acceptable in a fight.

It is probably incorrect to compare the two, but in rules applied, much of that inside grabbing, pulling down of his opponent's arm, and physically turning his opponent in clinches, would be deemed foul in an amatuer boxing match.

    Dirty fighter.

P.S. The early description of Liston's foot work and the emphasis on the lead foot when jabbing reminds me of something Dempsey said, regarding how he threw his left hook. Sorry but I don't know the technique of the game well enough to extrapolate.

I really believe Sonny would batter, bruise and bash both Klitchkos into blubbering submission, probably on the same night. I never thought much of those two, especially after watching a lot of their fights recently. That sealed it.

The narrator of the original video of Bill's uses the word "frame," many times. As much as I have seen and read about boxing, I have never seen this term used before. Did I miss something simple everyone else knows? Or is the narrator using the word to mean that Liston "poses," his opponents with his forearms, etc.?

Has anyone else used Frames to mean this or something else? I don't recall seeing it used on this boxing forums either. Maybe it is a common feature of analytical videos on combat sports. What about it?

Frame is a term used to mean "set up" the term is used as an analogy... One sets a picture by framing it... Similar with law. If I "Frame" you, I set you up.

I think your understanding is valid BUT as a distinction between professional and amatuer fighting. All those little tricks make the professional.

Okay, posing is about the same idea. Getting them in the right part of the frame, so to speak. Still never heard it used before as a boxing term. Is it a term you run into regularly in combat magazines? I heard you write for some of them.

It is strategic, sort of semi-technical. It has roots in legal terminology which uses a lot of analogies... For example, the judge sits in a "court" A court is a field of play that needs a referee. You are correct that the term does not get used in combat generally, but it is appropriate to use in the fashion it was used.

Yes, for years I wrote for the martial arts mags. Words like "frame" tend to be a function of the times as well. Probably the guy who used the term is older. Today people tend to say "set up" instead of "frame." Your point is correct. it basically tells you that the creator of the video probably is at least 50 years old.

I have never heard it used the way the narrator uses it in boxing, but yes have heard it used in place of "set up" or to create something around something else. Most often I have heard the phrase 'he framed his opinion . . .' But you're right, don't heard it much anymore.
