I was in London a short time...though I loved it. I did notice that Cabbies were like geniuses. I mean they know the city inside and out, our cabbie corrected my pronounciation, I had the feeling that if I wanted the formula for displacement of Uranium during a nuclear reaction, he could tell me. Also, while London seemed very international, with food that often looked great but had no ****e... paris was IMO a lot more like new York. You could see why many thought parisioners rude, when they actually were not. Like in New York, where people value their time, they would help you, just no wasted chit chat... reminds me of my mentor in college telling me about Shanghai when he was a visiting scholar: needed directions, the man he asked, in a hurry, grabs his hand (seeing he is a Northerner lol an American) and takes him to the spot.
It amazes me, an an inveterate New Yawka how many places there are where people do not know the names of streets in their own hoods! Baltimore stands out... and one better know that belair road is Blair road!
