He is one of many fighters who fall in love with their power and see no need for skill like a young Foreman. AJ has never recovered from being KO by Ruiz. Wilder can still learn and can still KO everyone in the top 10. AJ problem is in his head. Which is much harder to overcome.
The big difference between wilder and Joshua was demonstrated in the third fury fight ; a fighters mentality. For all his faults and flaws Wilder showed he is a warrior, prepared to go out on his shield not turning away and being counted out standing in a corner like Joshua.

      - - Time to study up!

Who turned away and never showed up in his corner to quit?

That was never AJ, so that's the most obvious hint of these 3 names I can give you.

Poor Breland is still out. Super nice guy, and will always have trainer gigs in a community that respects him. Wilder acted in anger and haste and it was other team members behind making Breland the fall guy. The issue wasn't in the training, it was strictly the towel getting thrown. Breland did right. Wilder didn't have it that night and the two other Fury wars are more than enough proof of that. Breland was the only one in Wilders camp brave and good enough to stop it, and the ref said he would og anyway. Wilders is no Towel Thower. Love him or not as you please, but he's not.
Great for him. His entire approach to his game is looking imperfect to invite the opponent's initiative....and KABOOM. Works great for him. Anybody see the fights from Verona last nght? Ajagba’s got power, and Shaw’s got power, but 10 tedious rounds nobody opened up. Both boxed perfect as a perfect Toyota Camry. No flaws. BORING! I enjoy Wilder because he doesn't play that. That's Breland influence. But it comes with a price of occasional diress from the flaws....untill the fast mover air support shows up.

aj was a drug dealer given an opportunity to make some real money and he obeyed the rules and the most important thing is that he obeyed the rules and that is why we respect him aye Queeny!

Teddy Atlas has had allot to say about it. Between the two of you I beleive I respect your opionions more. I get that Wilders not textbook; people who say that this somwhow translates to him being a mediocre FIGHTER seem unable to account for the quantitative results. Wilder is awkward- Period. He's tall, fast, highly driven and he has the great equalizer like maybe about half dozen other guys ever born.
If Ruiz shows me something different or someone else not named Tyson Fury can manage to exploit all those shortcomings without getting knocked out cold, I'll change my tune. To my well traveled eye, over the past 5 dacades or so, I rank him, at least for now, more or less like this against his peers from the last half century:

            1. Muhammad Ali
            2. George Foreman
            3. Lennox Lewis
            4. Larry Holmes / Mike Tyson
            5. Wladimir Klitschko
            6.Tyson Fury
            7. Joe Frazier
            8. Deontay Wilder
            9. Evander Holyfield
            10.Vitali Klitschko
            11.Anthony Joshua
            12.Ken Norton
            13.Rid**** Bowe
            14.Jerry Quarry
            15.Jimmy Young
            16.Ron Lyle
            17.Earnie Shavers
            18.Ike Ibeabuchi
            19.Joe Joyce
            20.David Tua
            21.Oleksandr Usyk
            22.Luis Ortiz
            23.Alexander Povetkin
            24.Ray Mercer
            25.Tommy Morrison
i agree with the list but i somehow reckon vitali should have done so much more, i always think vitali was the best brother and injury caused him this low ranking. i think he was one of the best ever just never proved it due to the mucky business of boxing and injury

There's a good thread going on this week heaping big, over the top praise on Vitali. Anyone on a top 25 list from 50 years in the fightsport where both the history and the money is, is receiving very, very high praise. The best of the species through all the filters.

                - - Wlad was the better decathlete with a more complete style and physical longevity who compiled a better record. However, Vit easily one of the biggest, most intimidating, defensively sound heavies in history with a near guaranteed Knockout written into any fight contract.

Both the Ks won almost every round of every fight they were in a dominance that a prime Roy Jones Jr had.

They never took significant punishment, and both involved in global missions to improve the lives of the *************** of the world. Vit reminds me of Eder Jofre elected as an Alderman, Manny elected as a National Philippine Representative, and Vit as Mayor of Kiev where he controls the heart of Ukraine sadly being ravaged by war these days.

yeah that war is so sad we thought war in europe would not happen again like that. they are both men to respect for what they have done and i was a fan when they boxed. I prefered vitali as he seemed a stronger man with a better chin as a big brother should be and yet he had such unfortunate things happen. vitali against fury would have been great.

                    • I agree that Vitali was better than little bro. Vitali, fought in the Russian Olympic style. Wald was more American style thanks to Steward. Vitali and Lewis could beat Wilder and AJ both. Lewis and Vitali could beat AJ now.
