  • You Really Dislike Which Fighter and his Reputation?

For me it has always been Ho'kins. Can't stand the guy. I detest him like Dan Hammy detests James Toney.

Ho'kins is no ATG in my book. Few fighters were ever more boring in the ring. The disappointing part is he was pretty effective.

Slobbering praise into beaten Trinidad's ear was the bottom of class. The nadir.

Talentless crumbs like Ho'kins always look for a record to steal. He got one for oldest fighter. Not impressed by that from anyone. Saw him fake fouls several times when he was hurt. God, he was disgusting and ugly to watch.

I respect you not liking his style. It was hard to watch at times.

    But he fought them all

    Jones Jr prime
    Taylor prime
    Pavlik prime
    Pascal prime
    Dawson prime
    Kovalev prime
    De la hoya
    Trinidad
    Winky
    Calzaghe

Yeah, and when you look at their careers they were all nobodies, other than Jones. Who in the hell is Dawson or Pascal? Nobodies who never did a thing afterwards. Hopkins is simply sickening.

I agree with your pick of Hopkins. He padded his record at 160, hiding out from the tougher fights at 168. His best wins were blown up welters. He was a dirty, boring fighter who couldn’t draw flies. His acting performances against Jones and Calzaghe were worthy of a slap at the Oscars.

Mayweather is one I dislike for both reputation and never fighting one elite level fighter at their best. I believe he had USADA and NSAC on his payroll when he announced he was “cleaning up boxing” in an effort to push the goal post with Manny. IMO Floyd was juicing all along and had the ace up his sleeve, he would never be popped for a failed test. Even got away with an illegal IV, while masking whatever was in his system. He got away with a lot of tactics himself; holding and clinching, forearms and elbows, running. Won’t even get into his beating of baby momma in front of kids and prior incidents of woman abuse, or that he may have played a role in Josie’s “hot shot” that OD’d her while she was suing him for $20 million.

I hate when fighters are too attached to their own era. "My era was the best." Back in my day." and all that nonsense. I like Lennox Lewis' attitude. Very grounded in reality, yet fully believes in himself like all great boxers should. On the subject of Hopkins, I get what you guys are saying, but Nash always respected Hopkins, especially his willingness to find a way to win, even bend the rules a bit, he was doing what was right for him, even if he was infuriating to watch at times.

I hated the whole thing with Joe Smith Jr, though. Hopkins all by himself was turning it into a race thing, when nobody else had mentioned it. And the whole calling Smith a common man was uncalled for. It was poetic justice how that fight ended. Nash out.

As far as style, Winky Wright just got to me. He had that peekaboo style with what felt like a 7-foot wingspan, and he wore his trunks up high so his arms just covered everything. ARGGHH he was literally impossible to hit cleanly. I respect him as the great he was, but darnit his high defense just got to me.

Reputation- Sven Ottke. I don't think I really need to say anything about this, right.

              - - Fergot runnin' and squallin' fer his daddy in the middle of a fight vs Maidana.

Growing up, I'd see boys run fer mama, but never fer daddy much less his who used him as a baby for a shield in a crack shootout.

Ah man, Prince Naseem used to annoy me. It wasn't the ****iness as much as it came off so cheesy to me. Maybe some of it was lost in translation coming over the pond, I dunno, dude just seemed like a cornball.

                  Heck of an athlete though

Holyfield - liked him up until I realized he was both dirty and a dirty fighter (too many head clashs for them to all be accidental.)

Panama Lewis (Pryor and Resto by proxy) for allowing themselves to be used in a cheat.

Mike Tyson (1987-1990) - actually not Tyson's fault (I didn't at the time, and still don't, care about the **** or ear biting) - I couldn't stand listening to all the casuals telling me every damn day how he was unbeatable. To me Tokyo was the redemption of prize fighting, no fighter was or will ever be greater than the game itself and I loved telling these people 'I told you so.'
