Yes, it is often their fans we react to more than the fighter himseft. By far the most sickening fans are Mayweather's. They hang on his half-wittedness.

hard to say I don't like a fighter as I met very few boxers... a ton of martial arts guys... different story. But alas there is a moral to this "like/don't like" dichotomy. When I was coming up my karate club days I was in a fighting club... and many of the students were from rather well organized gangs in the Baltimore/Washington Metro area. Thing is, these were cutthroats, killers, dojo stormers, etc... and I was the runt. But here is the thing: With virtually no exception: those guys were like big brothers to me. They literally put a bounty on my head if I missed training (in a good way lol)... which made me come in and train! they always spent time and effort to make sure I could hang... ONLY because of their efforts did I become a very competant fighter! I became an excellent teacher because of my own teacher, but never did these guys turn away, or discourage me trying to get better and needing their efforts.
So from the outside it would be easy to speak harshly about these "fighters"... I will never do so. No I don't condone the lifestyle but obviously my brothers have good in their hearts... I can't say who I would hate as a fighter.... I certainly don't have much respect for Sven Ottke or his ilk. I also never cared for the Klitskos as fighters, though I respect them as human beings.

Mike Tyson (1987-1990) - actually not Tyson's fault (I didn't at the time, and still don't, care about the **** or ear biting) - I couldn't stand listening to all the casuals telling me every damn day how he was unbeatable. To me Tokyo was the redemption of prize fighting, no fighter was or will ever be greater than the game itself and I loved telling these people 'I told you so.'

Contrary to popular belief, Marciano was quite a clean fighter for one so rough. And such a gentleman out of the ring. Easy to like.

I don't detest Toney. I don't even dislike Toney.
I just don't rate him that highly and I find his delusional internet fanbase unbearable.
I detested Muhammad Ali when I was younger, not so much these days.
Erm, Willie Pastrano I don't like.

Detest, Okay. James Butler was detestable. Merely sickening, guys like Teofimo Lopez. Some boxers project an aura I do not like.

Ho'kins is no ATG in my book. Few fighters were ever more boring in the ring. The disappointing part is he was pretty effective.
Slobbering praise into beaten Trinidad's ear was the bottom of class. The nadir.
Talentless crumbs like Ho'kins always look for a record to steal. He got one for oldest fighter. Not impressed by that from anyone. Saw him fake fouls several times when he was hurt. God, he was disgusting and ugly to watch.
then as you said the fake time outs and a long but lacking resume (in terms of wins).
and most of all he always claimed oldschool but his style wasn’t really that oldschool. Toney had an oldschool style, as did mcallum.
